Half Marathon: 2:04

My first post-high school 5K, in which I thought I was going to die

The first time I won my age division.  Yippee!

My first half marathon, in which I attack Sasha

The time I beat my high school PR for the 5K (as a 31 year-old mommy of 3!)

My first 5K barefooted

Short-Term Running Goals:

I'm just getting back into running after a long break to have my last child.  I would like to race some 10Ks, a half, and a marathon in the next 2 years.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Be the oldest woman to complete a marathon.  Yea!  But hopefully I will also complete some BEFORE I geezer up, like, before I'm 40 for sure.  I think it would be fun to dress up really strange for marathons, like impersonating celebrities and stuff.  Except I don't really like celebrities, as a rule, so maybe I'll have to stick to the age old question of ninja, or pirate.  I say ninja. *Hyah!*

Personal:

I am happily married to James W (Cool Runnings). We have 3 boys and 1 opinionated little girl.  I love reading and I'm also a news junkie.  I am a stinker.

Just a quick shoe check.  I've been having some arch pain and some hip pain these last few runs.  I was wondering if it was my new shoes.  So I ran 1/2 a mile on the treadmill first in my new shoes, then another 1/2 in my old.  No question, my new shoes are more cushioned, but my arches feel a lot better in my old shoes.  I guess I'll be using my old shoes tomorrow.  Luckily I can send back these shoes for full credit through Road Runner Sports.  I'll get a new pair of Asics like my old ones.

I also went to the chiropractor today about my hip.  He did some gentle adjustments with the activator and chastened me for not doing any weight training.  He said I was a candidate for osteoporosis someday if I don't. (Jeez!  How'd he know?)  So I've gotta figure that out.  He recommended I cut back on the mileage for next week to about 10, and no running on the road or sidewalk.  Just grass, track, or treadmill.

Lybi, run how you feel. If it still hurts after warm up still then stop and try a couple of days later. Anyway, I wanted to ask you a question. How long does it take for an average piano student to learn how to play Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata? This being from a beginning point with no experience.

I've had hip trouble also. However it seems not to have anything to do with my shoes but rather with my core muscles and the other muscles that stabilize the hip like the gluteus medius. Try some core strengthening exercises and focus on your form when you run and see if that doesn't help. (The arch pain probably is from your shoes of course).

Thanks you guys. I actually felt fabulous today. Absolutely NO hip pain. I thank my chiropractor for that. He said my lower back was out & causing a pelvic torsion . . .

NO arch pain either today. I put a cheapo Dr. Scholls arch support in my new running shoes and felt no complaints at all from my feet.

Core muscle strength would help prevent my pelvic torsion, I am sure. I'm sure it would help if I stopped carrying my humongous 2 year old on one hip, too.

Heber, I would love to be reading about your runs . . . ;)

Not much to read since I'm not a writer. Also I just ran the last race of the season for me (3k, 11:41). It's too hot to run anymore. I'm switching to the bike until September.
