My first post-high school 5K, in which I thought I was going to die

The first time I won my age division.  Yippee!

My first half marathon, in which I attack Sasha

The time I beat my high school PR for the 5K (as a 31 year-old mommy of 3!)

My first 5K barefooted

Short-Term Running Goals:

I'm just getting back into running after a long break to have my last child.  I would like to race some 10Ks, a half, and a marathon in the next 2 years.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Be the oldest woman to complete a marathon.  Yea!  But hopefully I will also complete some BEFORE I geezer up, like, before I'm 40 for sure.  I think it would be fun to dress up really strange for marathons, like impersonating celebrities and stuff.  Except I don't really like celebrities, as a rule, so maybe I'll have to stick to the age old question of ninja, or pirate.  I say ninja. *Hyah!*

Personal:

I am happily married to James W (Cool Runnings). We have 3 boys and 1 opinionated little girl.  I love reading and I'm also a news junkie.  I am a stinker.

I woke up with a sore throat this morning.  Probably what my kids all had.  I didn't feel sick other than the sore throat.  I hope it stays that way.  I took it super duper easy taking each of my little guys for a run.  Probably should have gone farther, but I was being conservative.

I wish I had a dog to run with.  I don't think I'll ever have a dog, since James is allergic to anything cute and fuzzy.  I was thinking that I wish I could rent a dog just for safety while running.  Then I got the idea that there is probably someone out there with a dog that has too much energy and needs to be exercised.  So I put up signs in my neighborhood saying that I am a "dog runner".   Satisfaction guaranteed.  Very affordable rates.  He he he.

I run when I can with my golden retriever which I like when I can find a place and he loves it of course. Challenge is it can be akward at times when he is on leash which is needed in most areas so you get the tamglements or the times when he is trying to go in another direction. Running off leash is OK when you are more alone or have more open space, but you have to keep track of him. Need to either carry water or have sources of water as they need it too. He doesnt do well in heat like me (as he is old like me!)

Lybi, if you do get the dog running job what will be your handle? You know, like the dog whisperer? The best way we have found to control a dog running is with a "gentle leash". it goes around like a normal collor and then has a loop around the snout of the dog. Dog's are very easy to train with this leash as you can give the dog a gentle pull on the leash and it gently jerks their head, works great. I would not recommend one of those long extension leashes. If you don't get the dog for safety, carry some pepper spray. Good luck.
