My first post-high school 5K, in which I thought I was going to die

The first time I won my age division.  Yippee!

My first half marathon, in which I attack Sasha

The time I beat my high school PR for the 5K (as a 31 year-old mommy of 3!)

My first 5K barefooted

Short-Term Running Goals:

I'm just getting back into running after a long break to have my last child.  I would like to race some 10Ks, a half, and a marathon in the next 2 years.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Be the oldest woman to complete a marathon.  Yea!  But hopefully I will also complete some BEFORE I geezer up, like, before I'm 40 for sure.  I think it would be fun to dress up really strange for marathons, like impersonating celebrities and stuff.  Except I don't really like celebrities, as a rule, so maybe I'll have to stick to the age old question of ninja, or pirate.  I say ninja. *Hyah!*

Personal:

I am happily married to James W (Cool Runnings). We have 3 boys and 1 opinionated little girl.  I love reading and I'm also a news junkie.  I am a stinker.

I like to end with a little sprint.  It gives a little tingle . . . a little.  Know what I'm talking about?  I went very slow today bc I feel a little under the weather.  I'm not going to get moaning-and-shivering sick like everyone else in my family has been.  I never got the fever.  Thank you thank you thank you.

Good news about my 5k next Friday--it's in the evening!!!  Yea!  Plus it is for a good cause--fighting melanoma.  It is supposedly flat and fast.  It will be sweltering hot.  It will be my first 5K post high school.

I've been thinking about goals.  For this race I want to beat Paul Petersen's time: 30:45.  The only difference is that his time was for a 10K and I'll be running 5.  This may sound like it's not very fair to Paul.  But think of it this way--he's been running far more than twice as long as I have and has more than twice the natural talent, plus he is a man . . . it is only fair that he should run twice as far as me for the same time. : )  If anyone else on the blog has a faster 10K time let me know--I'll beat it.  But for now, you're going down, Paul!  (At least, your time is anyway--BTW good luck in Ogden.)

ha ha. Thanks for the good wishes Lybi. Best of luck to you in your 5K. Keep training consistently and keep excited about it, and not only will you reach your short-term goals, but crush your high school PRs as well. Cody is a good example of this. He took a hiatus from running for 6 or 7 years, then got back into it again. Within one year of good solid training, he has exceeded his previous high school level. He's now looking at running times he didn't think possible ever before.

As far as bloggers with faster 10K times, I think Ryan Woods has run somewhere in the 29-minute range. That surely smokes any of us other guys. Regardless, after you beat all the 10K times, you can move on to my 8K PR (24:54). :-)

See why I love this blog!? Everyone is so positive and encouraging. Thanks Paul, you had me grinning for an hour. But that doesn't mean I'm going to take it easy on your time...it's still going down!

Lybi you are so funny!I think I read your blog every day for the great laugh it gives me....When I was running my first few races I think I made it a goal to not let Sasha run anymore than twice as fast as me....He loves to run the race....turn around and come and run the rest of my race with me. I always love it when he's surprised to see me (like I've been running faster than he thought I would)

He loves me...but his true wish is for us to run Boston or Chicago together and for him to tell ESPN that he can't do the interviews (you know...after he's won the race)...because he has to go and finish the race with his wife.

That actually happened when we ran a marathon together only it was in Logan...not Boston...maybe someday.

Good Luck on your 5K!!!!
