Goal Type:

Marathon Finish

Running Accomplishments:

1 mile:  6:31

5K:  23:37

Half Marathon: 2:04

My first post-high school 5K, in which I thought I was going to die

The first time I won my age division.  Yippee!

My first half marathon, in which I attack Sasha

The time I beat my high school PR for the 5K (as a 31 year-old mommy of 3!)

My first 5K barefooted

Short-Term Running Goals:

I'm just getting back into running after a long break to have my last child.  I would like to race some 10Ks, a half, and a marathon in the next 2 years.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Be the oldest woman to complete a marathon.  Yea!  But hopefully I will also complete some BEFORE I geezer up, like, before I'm 40 for sure.  I think it would be fun to dress up really strange for marathons, like impersonating celebrities and stuff.  Except I don't really like celebrities, as a rule, so maybe I'll have to stick to the age old question of ninja, or pirate.  I say ninja. *Hyah!*

I am happily married to James W (Cool Runnings). We have 3 boys and 1 opinionated little girl.  I love reading and I'm also a news junkie.  I am a stinker.

First day of school!  I took Sam to the bus stop with the other two in the jogging stroller, so as soon as the bus took off, I ran 2 miles with my littler ones in tow.  All I can say is that I have the greatest respect for anyone who runs with a loaded double jogging stroller. My arms are shaking and I am EXHAUSTED!  It was hard bc I had to fight with that stupid thing every single turn--and my normal route is continuous turns around lakes.   I'll have to change my running route if I keep up this little schedule.

2 more miles in the pm with Holly.  She is going to help one of HER friends start running.  Isn't that cool?  It's like it's contagious or something.

Oh! I wonder if your wheels are locked in a straight position? One time when I had a really hard time turning our stroller, that was the problem. ...Or it could just be really heavy. :) What a woman to get going at 7ish like that!

rock and roll! Great work out! The next time you run with out the stroller you may run 10-20 seconds a mile faster then your normal run.

When turning, it helps if you lift up the front wheel off the ground. The kids might enjoy a bit of excitement as well. Also, go to a course where you can swing really wide on the turns. Make sure your tires are properly inflated. And, of course, adjust the pace. For you, probably 2:00 per mile on the flat, 1:00 per mile on the downhill, 3:00/mile on the uphill.

Hey, have the kids push while you ride for a break. I know what you mean, I have a heavy weight grandson, when I take him in the baby jogger it is a real workout. Thanks for the comments on the race. When is your 5K? I recall that you were going to run one coming up. Are you ready?

If it makes you feel better..even in my best shape (Sasha may disagree but I say that that was when Jenny was a baby and I ran 5 miles a day starting at 9:30 pace and ending at 8:30 ..whew...that sounds great now) Anyway, on Wednesdays I would have to run with Benjamin and Jenny because Sasha worked at the temple in the morning (and still does and probably still will when our youngest is 18 and I can join him there). I could only push that monster of a stroller with all that weight for 2 miles. That was it! are in really good shape if you can push those babies at all I say...the double effect makes a huge difference to us women with pratically zero upper body strength.

I'm not saying you can't train to be stronger at it but you shouldn't be surprised that it wore you out so much.

Thanks for the support everyone! I feel much better about being wasted after only 2 miles with the jogging stroller now. But don't worry, I won't give up! "That which we continue to do becomes easier, not that the nature of the thing has changed, but that our capacity to do it increases." Heber J. Grant--one of my Mom's favorite quotes. I won't be able to run in the morning tomorrow, though, because I have to take Adam back to the bone doctor (THE MOMENT OF TRUTH!!!). Hopefully he will not need surgery.

Brent, it appears that my 5K is going to be sacrificed on the altar of James' marathon training. It was to be this Saturday. But, of course, James needs to do his long run on Saturday in the early morning, which conflicts with the 5K--he was going to pace me. *Sniff* To be honest, I am a little disappointed, but I also know this is a very critical time for James' training.

I love the idea of letting the kids try to push me, though. That's the most sure way I can think of to end up in a lake.

Good luck at the doctors hope everything turns out well!

Have James get there early and run the 5 K course several times, taking a break to pace you. Try to not make it too much of a break for him. I think you can run 8:45 pace, maybe even faster, which is right around his training pace.

From Lybi on Tue, Aug 14, 2007 at 17:06:21

I checked, and that race got cancelled, Sasha. But there is one next Friday night and James will be able to pace me for that one. I'm excited again.
