My first post-high school 5K, in which I thought I was going to die

The first time I won my age division.  Yippee!

My first half marathon, in which I attack Sasha

The time I beat my high school PR for the 5K (as a 31 year-old mommy of 3!)

My first 5K barefooted

Short-Term Running Goals:

I'm just getting back into running after a long break to have my last child.  I would like to race some 10Ks, a half, and a marathon in the next 2 years.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Be the oldest woman to complete a marathon.  Yea!  But hopefully I will also complete some BEFORE I geezer up, like, before I'm 40 for sure.  I think it would be fun to dress up really strange for marathons, like impersonating celebrities and stuff.  Except I don't really like celebrities, as a rule, so maybe I'll have to stick to the age old question of ninja, or pirate.  I say ninja. *Hyah!*

Personal:

I am happily married to James W (Cool Runnings). We have 3 boys and 1 opinionated little girl.  I love reading and I'm also a news junkie.  I am a stinker.

First 3 miles in a row since April 7th.  On treadmill, 5.3 mph most of the time.  Surprisingly, I felt fine.  I actually feel a little bit better now than I did before I ran.  I've felt blah all day because I couldn't drag my sorry self to bed until WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too late last night.

According to my fancy-schmancy bathroom scale, my bone density has increased since I started running.  Cool!

One item of concern: the bottoms of my feet have been a little tender or sore or something first thing in the morning.  Is this a precursor to an injury?  Any tips?

Hey Lybi...I've missed you....good girl on the three miles...you are on your way!!!

I'm feeling much better after my flu bout and have missed your comments and reading about your runs...I'm getting back in the swing of things and feel better.

Your bone density..that is really cool...

I've heard that impact sports are supposed to be good for bone density (contrary to

popular belief of the lazy non-exercising part of the country) nice to see some actual evidence.

Hey Bill-I have nice running shoes but they are old. They don't have a lot of running miles on them, but they have TONS of walking mileage. You're right, I need new shoes.

Sarah! I'm so glad you're feeling better. I always thought giving my kids piggy back rides counted as a weight bearing activity, so I never worried about my bone density. : ) But my dad has developed osteoporosis, so I had it measured--4.4 (I have no idea what the units are). The lowest it should be for someone my weight is 4.6. But now it is 4.8. Yea!
