1 mile:  6:31

5K:  23:37

Half Marathon: 2:04

My first post-high school 5K, in which I thought I was going to die

The first time I won my age division.  Yippee!

My first half marathon, in which I attack Sasha

The time I beat my high school PR for the 5K (as a 31 year-old mommy of 3!)

My first 5K barefooted

Short-Term Running Goals:

I'm just getting back into running after a long break to have my last child.  I would like to race some 10Ks, a half, and a marathon in the next 2 years.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Be the oldest woman to complete a marathon.  Yea!  But hopefully I will also complete some BEFORE I geezer up, like, before I'm 40 for sure.  I think it would be fun to dress up really strange for marathons, like impersonating celebrities and stuff.  Except I don't really like celebrities, as a rule, so maybe I'll have to stick to the age old question of ninja, or pirate.  I say ninja. *Hyah!*

Personal:

I am happily married to James W (Cool Runnings). We have 3 boys and 1 opinionated little girl.  I love reading and I'm also a news junkie.  I am a stinker.

Feeling lazy today.  I've been on the blog a lot seeking motivation.  I had almost decided not to run today until I read a really cool comment by Ultrajim regarding what an ultra marathon is all about.  Thanks Jim.  You gave the final nudge.

On treadmill. 5-6 mph.  Last little bit at 8 mph.  I tried to work on my form--good posture and lead with my torso.   No pain and I felt great!

Good! It takes some concentration in the begining to learn good form but soon it becomes second nature. I used to wear shoes with pronation control. Now I wear Nike Free which feel like socks. Pronation is largely a matter of form also. Try this experiment. Stand normally and notice where on your foot you feel most of the weight. Now rotate your pelvis (tuck in your bottom). Where is the weight now? It has shifted away from the inside of your foot. Pronation gone. Like magic.

Love you little sis,

Heber

C'mon Heber! You should have your own blog so I can write cool things on it like you! Only it is much more likely to be something like: "Ummmm... Keep up the good work! Yes. Keep...um... doing what you are doing. And...ah... see if you can do it even more in the future." You're quite the expert here, bro. Leave it to you to take something primitive like running and turn it into a doctoral thesis! Just kidding. : )

Only a brother could give you such advice. Good luck with your new shoes. By the way, changing your form can take months, it is not easy to get away from your natural running. I have a little different approach, concentrate on being light on you feet and smooth without regard to speed. Commando points, once earned, you must do something really bad to lose them.

Heck yes I would be! I thought that a 10 min. pace wasn't that great, but if your passing guys with that, thats encouraging enough for me! I rarely (basically never) see anyone running, unless it's a rare morning and I go with my husband and then I just see his dust!
