Half Marathon: 2:04

My first post-high school 5K, in which I thought I was going to die

The first time I won my age division.  Yippee!

My first half marathon, in which I attack Sasha

The time I beat my high school PR for the 5K (as a 31 year-old mommy of 3!)

My first 5K barefooted

Short-Term Running Goals:

I'm just getting back into running after a long break to have my last child.  I would like to race some 10Ks, a half, and a marathon in the next 2 years.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Be the oldest woman to complete a marathon.  Yea!  But hopefully I will also complete some BEFORE I geezer up, like, before I'm 40 for sure.  I think it would be fun to dress up really strange for marathons, like impersonating celebrities and stuff.  Except I don't really like celebrities, as a rule, so maybe I'll have to stick to the age old question of ninja, or pirate.  I say ninja. *Hyah!*

Personal:

I am happily married to James W (Cool Runnings). We have 3 boys and 1 opinionated little girl.  I love reading and I'm also a news junkie.  I am a stinker.

5K in 34:59.  Geez!  It felt really hard today.  I don't know why.  I hope I'm not getting sick.  I have just the slightest bit of a sore throat.  I'm sure I'll be fine.  I am struggling big time with everything I really need to do everyday.  I need to refine my schedule.  Might drop a few piano students, and I think I'm going to give up running at night.  If it doesn't happen by 6:15, it's not going to happen.  I'll probably give up my bookclub(s) too.  And I guess I won't volunteer as the block captain for our neighborhood this year.

Yesterday I got my medal!  Yay!  Remember when Ashman took second in Ogden, and he said something like winning wasn't all it's cracked up to be?  Totally wrong.  It's all about the medals.  (Just kidding.)

Nothing wrong with taking a little pride in the hardware! Congrats!

Thanks Dave!

So, you've finally decided to join the rest of us humans and cut back your crazy schedule: 20 piano students, running, 2 bookclubs, 3 crazy boys, wonderful wife, Primary secretary, and what in the world is a block captain??? ;o)

You're awesome. Congratulations on being FIRST in your age division - Woohoo!!!!! That medal was well earned!!

Looks like you've got a cold or something similar.

From Holly on Fri, Aug 31, 2007 at 14:03:30

Oo! For slight sore throats, zinc lozenges called "Cold-Eeze" are AWESOME. In that early stage (sore throat, before other symptoms), they can often wipe out the cold entirely in an adult. It says on the box how many it's ok to take in a day, and you go by when you feel the sore throat, again. Lots of cold start there (well, and in the nose, which is not as tasty to medicate), and the zinc can KILL the germs there to help your body fight it. Did I mention they're pretty tasty? The Wal-mart brand works just as well, but they don't have as many flavors.

'Way to recognize your life is too hectic and cut back -- I need to take a page out of THAT book! :) Sarah, are you listening? hehe

From Maria on Fri, Aug 31, 2007 at 14:21:05

Congrats on getting that medal!! I second Holly's comment on zinc helping with the colds. But "Cold-Eeze" lozenges never worked for me personally, maybe they have too low zinc concentration and I would have to take too many? Not sure. But what DID work great, was another zinc product, called Zicam. It comes in tablets, chewables and nasal spray, and I used both tablets and chewables. They helped significantly with terrible congestion I had. It is important to start taking them as soon as you notice any symptoms. Feel better!

Lybi, scrap booking is the ticket as both you and James are runners. Journaling races, pictures, etc. of your running. Medals are nice, but, it is nice to have a visual and story to remember and associate with the medal.

Congrads on the medal.

From Michael on Fri, Aug 31, 2007 at 17:06:23

Yes the zinc cough drops do help. Also you seem to get sore throats off and on, I did alot in Utah too after running, and Utah is dry like Arizona, since I started drinking more fluids it has helped alot and reduced them. Of coarse you also have 3 germ collecting kids so Moms usually get what the kids carry

From Lybi on Sat, Sep 01, 2007 at 11:47:27

Yea, I think that school starting up kind up stirs up a germ-fest. I got some Cold-Eeze losenges. I feel better today.

Maria: I was going to get some Zicam, but when I searched it on the computer a bunch of lawsuits came up. Apparently a lot of people who use it lose their sense of smell. Yikes! Be careful.

Laura: a block captain organizes quarterly events, like barbeques and stuff to help everybody get to know each other. SOunds fun, but I really can't add anything else right now.
