Prs:

1 mile:  6:31

5K:  23:37

Half Marathon: 2:04

My first post-high school 5K, in which I thought I was going to die

The first time I won my age division.  Yippee!

My first half marathon, in which I attack Sasha

The time I beat my high school PR for the 5K (as a 31 year-old mommy of 3!)

My first 5K barefooted

Short-Term Running Goals:

I'm just getting back into running after a long break to have my last child.  I would like to race some 10Ks, a half, and a marathon in the next 2 years.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Be the oldest woman to complete a marathon.  Yea!  But hopefully I will also complete some BEFORE I geezer up, like, before I'm 40 for sure.  I think it would be fun to dress up really strange for marathons, like impersonating celebrities and stuff.  Except I don't really like celebrities, as a rule, so maybe I'll have to stick to the age old question of ninja, or pirate.  I say ninja. *Hyah!*

Personal:

I am happily married to James W (Cool Runnings). We have 3 boys and 1 opinionated little girl.  I love reading and I'm also a news junkie.  I am a stinker.

3 miles with Christine.  1st 10:48.  2nd 10:11.  3rd 10:11.  See?  Nice and slow, just like Sasha wants (although I overdid it a little on that first one.   He he.)

I'm still torn about whether or not to run in the 5K tomorrow.  The issue is that James won't be able to come (which means I'll inevitably get lost in Phoenix on the way there; might be too tired to drive home; no cheering section yada yada yada).

Hmmm.  If I get more than 5 people who leave comments telling me to go for it, I will.  There, it's out of my hands now.

I'll be the first one. If we lived in Phoenix or any big city for that matter I'd get Sarah a talking GPS so she would not get lost. If you have friends who have one, you could borrow it for one night. Or, bring your Garmin with you, before you do, have James teach you how to get your current GPS coordinates out of it (James - if you have not yet figured it out, you mark a waypoint, and then look at its details), then if you are lost, call James on the cell phone, give him your GPS coordinates and he will be able to navigate you out of your predicament. Guys really like to do it. One time I was consulting for a client, we had about 7 people in the room, one guy got a call from a family member asking how to get from point A to point B, and they all forgot what they were doing, got on Google Maps/Yahoo Maps/Mapquest and started looking up directions, with each periodically shouting "I found a better route!".

10:48 for a warm-up is just fine - I often run the first mile in 8:30 or slower. To put that in perspective, you would be putting in the same effort at 10:48 as I do at 8:30 if you could race a 5 K at 7:20 pace.

I say go for it as well. I wish I could be there, but the babysitting situation looks like it did not work out. Still, I am sure you will do just fine, and are definitely on track for a big PR. We can put together a route tonight, and you can take the cell phone with you, plus the Garmin. One way or another, we will get you to the race.

From Kerry on Fri, Sep 28, 2007 at 18:49:40

Go for it, Lybi! There's nothing like a race to get the heart pumping and whether you exceed your expectations or fall short, you'll be a lot better for having made the effort. We'll be looking forward to your race report.

From Cody on Fri, Sep 28, 2007 at 18:58:18

Oh, its PR time...Go for it!!

From Lyman on Fri, Sep 28, 2007 at 19:11:44

And I would be number five...so now you have to do it. I promise you won't regret it. Racing will give you that sense of accomplishment a motivation to continue to improve. Go have some fun!!!

From Lybi on Fri, Sep 28, 2007 at 19:20:18

Well actually, if you read the fine print, I said "more than 5". No just kidding. Sasha counts for 2. And Cody counts for 1.5 because he is a just-passing-through fast guy. And Lyman counts for 1.5 because this is his first comment on my blog. And Kerry counts for 1.5 because he is a punk. But James only counts .5 because he is my hubby and he is biased. (Sorry sweetie!) Ho-Boy...here we go...I'm gonna be sore this time on Sunday.

From Dustin on Fri, Sep 28, 2007 at 19:38:54

I not really any of the above, but go for it and have fun.

From James in Sunny AZ on Fri, Sep 28, 2007 at 19:42:05

Well now, Dustin officially makes 6, so now you're really stuck! Can't talk yourself out of this one now, can you?

From Lybi on Fri, Sep 28, 2007 at 20:12:36

Big D! You get the most votes of all--2.5. 1.5 because you are a just-passing-through fast guy. An extra .5 because this is your first comment on my blog, and the rest on the strong suspicion that you are also a punk. Sure, you seem like a nice enough guy, but just look at who you hang around with! There is strong correlation between that St. George running club and punkdom.

From Kristina on Fri, Sep 28, 2007 at 21:25:35

Lybi you don't need me to tell you to go for it since everyone else did, but I'm way excited for you. You are amazing and will do great. Even if you won't have a cheering section there, you have a huge virtual cheering section waiting to hear how you did. Good Luck!

From Brent on Fri, Sep 28, 2007 at 23:28:56

Be brave, be strong, do not give in to the pain, the PR is not important, the shear exhastion of the great effort will be your reward. No luck needed, you are ready.

Just do it! You will have fun and be glad that you ran.

From Lybi on Sat, Sep 29, 2007 at 08:21:18

Thanks for the encouragement, Kristina, Brent & James! Boy, now I'm glad I checked the blog right before leaving for the race. I'm stoked.

From Christi on Sat, Sep 29, 2007 at 12:58:10

Ah man, I'm too late to tell you to go for it- its already Sat. am! I hope you have just finished the 5k! Can't wait to read the race report! I'm sure you ROCKED!

From Christi on Sat, Sep 29, 2007 at 13:06:23

Just read your comment about my toes- yeah its a bugger. I think the deal is that the end of my toes had gotten kinda calloused, then the callouses (sp?) went away when I was swimming for a week in powell w/ no running. Thankfully they don't hurt today, so maybe a week of running broke them back in? Anyhow Steve helped me pick out my last 2 pairs of shoes, I just have feet issues I guess! Stinks! Hey- when do you get in town this next week? Can't wait to see you!

From Lybi on Sat, Sep 29, 2007 at 13:35:44

Christi, we are coming in Friday afternoon. I am so excited to meet you in person! James wants to drive the course, then we might run, shower, go early to help set up for the party and stuff. Not exactly sure.

From James in Sunny AZ on Sat, Sep 29, 2007 at 15:27:40

Yeah, there's that other matter of having to pick up my race number as well . . . plus I want to take a look at the stuff at the expo. Last time I was there, they had gloves on sale for a buck each, plus lots of other cool stuff. We're going to leave here early in the morning, and it is about a 7 hour drive to St. George. Looking forward to seeing everyone at the party!
