My first post-high school 5K, in which I thought I was going to die

The first time I won my age division.  Yippee!

My first half marathon, in which I attack Sasha

Short-Term Running Goals:

I'm just getting back into running after a long break to have my last child.  I would like to race some 10Ks, a half, and a marathon in the next 2 years.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Be the oldest woman to complete a marathon.  Yea!  But hopefully I will also complete some BEFORE I geezer up, like, before I'm 40 for sure.  I think it would be fun to dress up really strange for marathons, like impersonating celebrities and stuff.  Except I don't really like celebrities, as a rule, so maybe I'll have to stick to the age old question of ninja, or pirate.  I say ninja. *Hyah!*

Personal:

I am happily married to James W (Cool Runnings). We have 3 boys and 1 opinionated little girl.  I love reading and I'm also a news junkie.  I am a stinker.

2 miles outside tonight.  I am crediting this blog for the fact that I got out today.  It was a small miracle.  I am learning that you don't have to want to do it, you just have to DO it.  It is easier when you want to, though.

I missed my weigh-in this morning.  Oops.  Big goal for next week is to get that done.  2nd big goal is to not miss any running days.  Alternate doing 3 miles one day and 2 the next.

Hey You- No my DH doesn't run. Wish he did, but can't get him to. Oh well. Agree with what you said above, you just have to DO it, often I don't want to, but happy I did afterwards! How's WW going? I'm on week 8 and have lost 4 lbs. That really doesn't seem like squat- but its actually good for me! I was at a total plateau without it. At first I was only losing .6 a mtg, lately I've lost 1 lb at the last couple mtgs. I'm hoping for close to 1 lb again this Wed- BUT the Cold Stone Ice Cream BD cake I bought my hubby isn't helping!

Lybi - first priority should be to get the run done, then weighing in. I assume your ultimate goal is to be in good health. If so, one's ability to run long and fast is a much better indicator of one's health than the weight. Weight observation can be helpful to try to figure out what your body is doing, but one should never have a particular weight as a goal of any significance. An experienced runner who has monitored his weight for years may use his weight as a tool to measure where he stands fitness wise, but if his weight is "wrong", but his fitness is at its prime, he should not worry about his weight. Weight should only be a concern when all other things have been done to improve fitness, the mileage is peaked, the training is perfect, the runner knows for sure his extra 5 pounds are really extra, and he is not hitting his top performances.

I suggest running a 2 mile tempo on the exact same course once a week, always applying the same effort, and see what time you get.
