Half Marathon: 2:04

My first post-high school 5K, in which I thought I was going to die

The first time I won my age division.  Yippee!

My first half marathon, in which I attack Sasha

The time I beat my high school PR for the 5K (as a 31 year-old mommy of 3!)

My first 5K barefooted

Short-Term Running Goals:

I'm just getting back into running after a long break to have my last child.  I would like to race some 10Ks, a half, and a marathon in the next 2 years.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Be the oldest woman to complete a marathon.  Yea!  But hopefully I will also complete some BEFORE I geezer up, like, before I'm 40 for sure.  I think it would be fun to dress up really strange for marathons, like impersonating celebrities and stuff.  Except I don't really like celebrities, as a rule, so maybe I'll have to stick to the age old question of ninja, or pirate.  I say ninja. *Hyah!*

Personal:

I am happily married to James W (Cool Runnings). We have 3 boys and 1 opinionated little girl.  I love reading and I'm also a news junkie.  I am a stinker.

2.85 miles with Christine early this morning in my neighborhood. Ave. pave 9:11. About 1 min. per mile faster than usual, but it felt easy and good. Christine just got back from New York, after being gone for a week or so. Before the run I decided I would let Christine "have her head", meaning I would not try to slow her down. So I just hung out with her. I was happy that I seemed to take it in stride a little more than she did today. It is a little demoralizing to always feel like the "slow one." I usually run about 8.4 miles with Christine out of my 30. I am thinking of turning these miles into "marathon pace miles" because I just hate cramping Christine's style. Ideally, I would also have 2 tempo miles (around 8 min./mile) per week, leaving about 20 miles (hopefully more) "easy" (10-10:30 pace). Does this sound like a good ratio?

Pi miles on the treadmill tonight to get me to 6 for the day. I had to stop mid-stride to get it just right. SLOW pace. I'm watching "The Ultimate Gift" on my treadmill runs. Sweet flick, so far. Can't wait to see the end.

P.S. If I do not do my 2 mile tempo run tomorrow, you all have my permission to rail on me. Tempo runs often hurt, which is why I frequently "forget" to do them.

Lybi, I used to run most of my runs at a much faster pace than I do now. However, I am ALMOST as fast in my races now as I was then, and my recovery time is almost nonexistent. For example, running 7 miles two days after a near-PR half marathon would have been absolutely out of the question two years ago. I am also running higher mileage for a more extended period of time as well. So, the moral of the story is: I think almost 1/3 of your weekly mileage at marathon pace might be a little much. Maybe you can do your tempo run with Christine (which should be 10% of your weekly mileage, I think) and keep the rest of the mileage easy.

Great job on doing the tempo runs, by the way. You are inspiring me to get off my lazy butt and start doing them again!

Sorry- can't answer your tempo questions. From my experience its all about getting in the miles no matter how fast. I'm curious to see Sasha's answer. But you & Christine were cruising- excellent job on the fast run & getting another run in!!!!

Did you forget your tempo run? Rail, rail, rail!!! (hee, hee) ;oP Thanks for all the checking up on me that you did while my foot was hurting this weekend. You're awesome. I still can't decide about Moab. I know I only have 2-3 days left to decide. Ahhh!

Hey, I still have until midnight tonight to get it in, Laura! And YOU are the awesome one.

I like the idea of "forgetting" to do workouts. He he. You are awesome! I love reading about your improvements!
