1 mile:  6:31

5K:  23:37

Half Marathon: 2:04

My first post-high school 5K, in which I thought I was going to die

The first time I won my age division.  Yippee!

My first half marathon, in which I attack Sasha

The time I beat my high school PR for the 5K (as a 31 year-old mommy of 3!)

My first 5K barefooted

Short-Term Running Goals:

I'm just getting back into running after a long break to have my last child.  I would like to race some 10Ks, a half, and a marathon in the next 2 years.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Be the oldest woman to complete a marathon.  Yea!  But hopefully I will also complete some BEFORE I geezer up, like, before I'm 40 for sure.  I think it would be fun to dress up really strange for marathons, like impersonating celebrities and stuff.  Except I don't really like celebrities, as a rule, so maybe I'll have to stick to the age old question of ninja, or pirate.  I say ninja. *Hyah!*

Personal:

I am happily married to James W (Cool Runnings). We have 3 boys and 1 opinionated little girl.  I love reading and I'm also a news junkie.  I am a stinker.

2.85 With Christine with splits of 10:08, 9:42, and 9:27 pace for the .85.  Probably a little faster than I would have liked this morning.  I should have asked her to hold up a little, but I was chicken, and she didn't respond to my subtle hint of hanging about 2 feet behind her.  : )  I'm supposed to be grounded to 9:45 pace and above on my slow runs until I can do a 24:24 for a 5K, or something like that.

1.28 With the double jogging stroller to take my little guy to school.  Can I take just a minute to say how glad I am that I started running him to school?  He is doing so well!  Usually by this time of year I have to put him on mild steroids (Flovent 44) every day to keep his asthma stuff under control.  But he is doing fine--no croup, no respiratory infection, no diff. breathing.  This is amazing for the end of October!  And his other health issue (which has been a problem forever) is getting much better too.  Let's just say he is a pretty regular little boy now!  I've gone to all kinds of specialists with him for various stuff, but none of them ever suggested running with him every day, yet that has been the most helpful of anything we've tried so far--including prescription medication.  And it takes the same amount of time as driving there; and we always talk a lot and review spelling and math facts--so he is doing really well at school.  OK, I'll stop now.  I'm just excited.

About 1.15 later today to pick up little guy from school.

Glad your boy is doing well. He must enjoy the stroller run with Mommy. He's probably a future Olympian

From Michelle on Tue, Oct 23, 2007 at 16:12:57

Lybi, I'm so glad that your little guy is doing so well! Unfortunatley I am the "expert" on your little guys problem and if you need any med advice I can give you some great ideas. Jamie my daughter with spina bifida has battled that her whole life and they have to be very cafeful with meds at the same time being very agressive so, have you heard of mirilax ? Maybe what you have is working, and the running seems to be helping too. But if I can help I would be glad too! Great run today! You are really taking the training up a notch!

Oh Lybi, BTW when I get home on the 1st, it will be first sign up day for Moab half. I can do that when I get home. Can you get the official name for our group and then sent me a comment. I think that I sign us up and then you guys look up our name and sign up individually under our group name. At least thats the way that I read it. I will plan to do it when I get home unless I hear different from you or anyone else. I hope you can round up the troops and get it figured out and I will take it from there then. Thanks!!!

Hey Lybi! Glad running is benefitting your family. I'm not as much as an expert as Michelle when it comes to kids & tummy problems- but Toby did have lots of issues with that as a kid. As he got older and more active it really helped and seems to get better with age. Anyway- sounds like you had a great run today and don't be afraid to speak up if Christine is going too fast, she may secretly just be trying to keep up w/ you!

That is awesome that your son is responding so well to running. I'm impressed with your split up running, I find that hard to do. Do you run in regular clothes or just hang out in running clothes all day or what? It would be nice to split it up sometimes.

I had asthma as a kid (I've mostly grown out of it, but have an asthma attack about once a year now) and the best things I ever did were the things that seemed counter-intuitive. Running helps you keep your breathing rhythmic and builds your lung capacity. I didn't run when I was younger, but I did pick up the trumpet, which seemed like something a person with breathing trouble wouldn't be able to do. I think that it actually helped me to outgrow the asthma. Great job today!

I'm glad your son is doing better!

I'm curious about your comment that you need to do 9:45 for slow runs until you can run a 24:24 5K. Did Sasha tell you that? That's been my approximate pace lately. Maybe I'll have to try another 5K soon. There's one on Saturday at South Mountain. Hmmmm.......

From Shauna on Tue, Oct 23, 2007 at 22:31:47

Lybi, I can't find your comment about meeting up with you and Mik'l on 11/3. I think you said something about 4:30. That sounds great to me. Just so you know, I start trial the following week and might be buried at work all that weekend. BUT, as of right now, I am planning on running with you two, and I'm looking forward to it!

From Lybi on Tue, Oct 23, 2007 at 23:56:31

Shauna, I had to look it up, but yes, Sasha said that I should stick to 9:30 and up, preferrably 10, or even 10:30 pace for easy runs until I can run a 24:00 5K. That seems like a long ways away, but I don't doubt the wisdom of it. I always try to do whatever Sasha advises.

And cool if you can run with us on Nov. 3rd!
