After nearly 4 weeks, and 3 other doctors.... I finally saw the right doctor. Dr. Robert Jackson--the hip (not knee) Jackson orthopedic brother. I've had 2 MRI's and still need one more.  But Dr. Jackson read the MRI's and said no one had ever addressed the fact that I have acute and chronic tendinosis of the hamstring. It's torn to shreds and healed and scarred up. He said where it should be the size of a finger, is the size of 3 fingers held together.  He said the inflammation may be helped with PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) therapy administered by a radiologist.  Then they can tell with another MRI if it has responded to the therapy. If it has, they'll do it again.  If it doesn't THEN we'll talk surgery and hamstring repair.  He said if it's too much scar tissue, they will have to trim it down. Strangely the torn hip ligament does nothing (except maybe force my hamstring to work harder?? It's been there probably since 2008).  In the fall, however, I ruptured the bursa, tore the one of the meniscus, and a few tears on my patellar tendons.  Dr. Jackson said they will perform the same PRP therapy on my knee while they are doing my knee.  I see light at the end of the tunnel!  For the first time in a year--I see a tiny ray of hope.  If the endocrinologist can get to the bottom of the blood sugar thing, and my hamstring stops causing chronic pain I may feel my age again instead of 110. That would be nice.

Oh man! This is super crazy. it makes me wonder what an MRI would look like of my back side. I hope the therapy works:)

Jos, I've thought of that (wondered what your hips and lower back look like in an MRI) at least 10 times since I've had so many MRI's recently. It's amazing what they can tell. I will let you know if the Platlette Rich Plasma therapy works. It has to be administered by a radiologist while he's looking at an MRI to be precise about where they put the platelettes. But my guess with sciatica it's not going to "heal" anything. I don't know if this therapy will "heal" anything either, but in order for my hamstring to function it has to be smaller (either cortisone, or surgery etc). I'm still so mad about the knee. I have never had more than a slight case of tendinitis in my knee. I really wrecked it...and it's not even why I stopped running (so much) last July.

O man! you are being put thru the ringer! I am so sorry! I hope the PRP therapy works for both your knee and the hamstring.

RivertonPaul on the blog has gone thru 3 PRP injections this year for his achilles tendonosis. The verdict is still not in! Studies have shown successful rate in tennis elbows. I hope hope hope it works for ya! Take care!

Hhmm. I'm glad at least someone else on the blog with tendonosis has done it and can say something about it. I've never heard one thing.... I wonder if the platlette therapy doesn't work, if it's worth it to surgically scrape down the scar tissue. I would do it if it made for less painful sitting/running/standing. The ortho guy said there is only one hamstring specialist in Utah (I had no idea one had to specialize in hamstrings). But Dr. Jackson said, if the therapy didn't work he'd refer me to that guy....

Hang in there Luz. It sounds very frustrating to be you right now.
