Seth and I graduated from BYU April 2007. Our beautiful son Simeon was born that May. I started running again in June with the encouragement of Seth and Lybi. Seth, Lybi, Laura, and their mom are the ones who really keep me running :P

Oops. I didn't run again today. Seth and I left at 8:00 this morning to drive to my parents house. Then when we got there my dad said Let's go fishing. So at 4:00 we went fishing and didn't get back home until 9:30. Then I showered, fed the baby, and ate dinner. Now I'm way too tired to run. Plus my parents live in the mountains so running after dark isn't the greatest idea.

You're awesome! Good...fishing. He he he. I didn't run last night, and I'm just waiting for a reprisal from the universe. Ahh! Actually, my treadmill broke, so I have to run outside... at night, which is super-hot.

I have to run at night bc James runs from 5 to 6 am and then goes to work at 6:15 so I don't have time to run in the am unless it is from 4-5 am. NO thanks! But last night I just couldn't drag myself outside at 10 pm. Minus 10 points for me.

James found a job posting in NM yesterday that has me all excited.

Feeling too tired to run is a mental deception. I feel too tired to run every day, and had I not known better, I would just not run. Things do get a lot brighter once you get out, and had this not happened to me thousands of times before, I would be getting surprised. Some days it takes me as long as 4 miles of running before I stop feeling tired and get into a good rhythm.

I believe what is happening is that there are two sub-systems involved in this - your neural drive, and your actual physical strength. They are not always connected, in fact, more often than not they are out of sync with each other. When you give yourself a kick in the pants, and get out, your nervous system activates, and then the body can go, and you have an enjoyable experience.

When the physical strength is down, it is a different story, but you should still run some - unless you're sick, you should go your planned distance, except at a slower pace. When sick, cut the distance as well.

I think that feeling too tired to run can be real if you have a newborn, but I agree with you, Sasha, about just getting out there in general. I always feel better when I do, even if I have to drag myself out there. What would you say if there was a conflict between sleep and running? Last night I couldn't get out until after 10, which would have made me miss my bedtime boudnary of 10:30 (which I missed anyway, but let's pretend you don't know that). In my case, would you think it is more important to run than get to bed on time? I'm guessing you'll say run. But you've never smelled James shorts...

Hmm...commenting on my own blog. I hope this is the most practical way to do this.

Anyway, when I was reading Sasha's comment I was thinking, "He thinks being too tired to run is only a mental thing because he's never had to breastfeed a baby." So thanks for backing me up on that thought Lybi. I do know that you have to be careful when breastfeeding not to overwork yourself during the day. And yesterday was such a busy day that I didn't get a nap. Doing too much can slow down my milk and that's bad :)

Oh, and the whole running at night thing is an important factor here. I don't want to get eaten by a beat :P

So I don't know why that posted twice and it should say bear. I don't want to get eaten by a bear.
