Marathon Finish

Running Accomplishments:

My personal best marathon was my first marathon. I ran the St. George Marathon in 2005, and finished in 3:14. I was hurting at the end, and had to walk too much between miles 22 and 26, but I finished. I had hoped to drop that time in 2006 and qualify for Boston, but hamstring pain and other distractions took their toll and I ended up finishing in 3:25.

Personal Bests:

  • Marathon: 3:14:53 (St. George, 2005)
  • Half Marathon: 1:31:02 (Hobble Creek, 2006)
  • 5K: 19:50 (Murray Fun Days, 2006)
  • 50K: 5:16 (Goblin Valley Ultra, 2006)
I don't know my PB for a 10K, but I've run a 10K in around 38:59, which may or may not be a PB. (I don't really like the 10K distance - too long to be a sprint, and too short to be an endurance run).

Short-Term Running Goals:

Get back into shape.

Long-Term Running Goals:

The Wasatch 100 in under 22 hours. Hell, ANY finish at the Wasatch 100 would be great.

According to my training schedule this was supposed to be a four mile run - so I'm going to count my slightly less than three miles as four. :)

I thought the Bonneville Shoreline Trail between the Huntsman Cancer Institute and Sunnyside would be pretty well packed down after Monday morning's snow storm. I figured since Monday was a holiday everyone would have been out enjoying the day. Turn out I was wrong. The trail was broken, but not packed. Most of the time I was running in loosely packed snow. Well, running is actually too strong of a description for what I did - it was more like walking and panting. (Running in loose snow is tough - you lose any rebound you would have gotten from your footfall, so it's almost like you're running from a dead standstill with every step).

Hi Kris,

Glad to see you are still pounding the pavement in Salt Lake. Are you running the Wasatch Relay this year? Good luck at Moab.

I'm trying to keep the pavement sufficiently pounded, but between my ACL surgery and new daughter it's been hard to find time to train. But, getting into Moab has given me a little motivation to get back into shape. I'm not on a Wasatch Back team yet, but I'm looking at a few different options.

When did you move to San Diego? Must be tough to run at sea level in beautiful weather.

Congratulations on your new family addition! I ran Moab two years ago and it was soooo windy, but I'm sure you will have a great race.

We moved out in late August. It is nice to still be running in shorts and short-sleeves. I read some of the blogs from Salt Lake and you guys are having to wear ski googles!

I'm in the process of tranning for Boston this year. I've lost some speed, but hope to work back into it over the next couple of months. I've never been a good "spring time" marathoner.

I ran Moab that year - it was horrible. I had been sick the two weeks leading up to the race, and was still feeling pretty bad. The wind kept killing me, and of course, the photographers decided to get a picture of me walking.

I haven't busted out the ski goggles yet (although I'm sure Craig has), but it gets pretty cold.

Good luck in Boston! I'm just hoping to finish a few marathons this year, and I'll focus on getting qualified next year.

Hey! I didn't know you were on here. I've found some good advice on here concerning increasing my mileage, and the blog entries give me just a little extra motivation.

Anyway, I heard from Loco members that you were running some mid distances now. That's good.

I've had an account here since 2006, but I've been really bad about keeping it updated. (Thus the "sporadic" title). My longest run since last spring has been ~6 miles, so I figure I've got a way to go before I get back into marathon or even ultramarathon shape.
