I started running in the fall of 2007.  I truly believe I was inspired to start running and I have seen some very big blessings come my way because of following that inspiration.

Ran Boston Marathon 2013 & 2014.  My favorite PRs:  2011 at the SG 1/2 and 5K where I ran the 5K in 22:22.    2013 Nebo 1/2 (downhill) 1:36:15

Long-Term Running Goals:

Running throughout life with Tom. Staying healthy and happy.

Learn from others, learn from myself, work hard, do my best, enjoy!

On running and on life.....

On occasion we need to make a second effort - and a third effort, and a fourth effort, and as many degrees of effort as may be required to accomplish what we strive to achieve.

Wow!  Today was Kimi's running adventure!  I set out to do my 7 miler for this week.  For some wild and crazy reason I decided to take the first 3 miles straight up into the mouth of the canyon where our famous Spanish Fork wind comes from.  It was a the cold of the wind that was bothering me more than the force of the wind.  My face gets so cold to start out with.

I went to areas that I haven't gone to before so I came across a few adventures.  One street led to a dead end so I turned to go up another one.  It led to an undeveloped cul-de-sac so I had to do an unplanned trail run to get to another street.  (I almost sprawled myself on the ground there.)  On the other road I ended up on a lonely stretch  with about 10 yards of weeds between me and the main highway.  There on the highway was a hitchhiker going the same direction as me.  It kind of gave me a weird feeling to be right there so I pushed into the wind to get out of an uncomfortable situation.  When  I reached the top of this road I remembered they had closed it off to traffic.  I thought I could just go through some weeds for a bit and get onto the next road right ahead of me.  But as I reached the end I realized they had put a barbed wire fence up all along the area.  I looked around and found a place where someone had bent the fence down so I climbed over there.  On the other side the wind was waiting as fiercely as ever for me.

Later on a dog came my way, he made me a little nervous as he came toward me, but then passed me like I wasn't even there.  I was happy for that.  The whole run felt great!  I actually had to pull myself out of the 9s once in a while.  At about 4 miles I felt like I could take on the world!  I actually got the chills and it had nothing to do with the chill in the air.  I just liked the feeling of what I was doing!  At about 6.5 miles I could tell I was on track to be a little over 7 miles so I made a few turns into the wind again to take it up to 8.

My overall time was 1:24:14

Average pace  10:35

10:43

And now I am sitting here freezing so I shall go take my nice warm shower!

Wow, you did have an adventure...and a great run. Your training is doing awesome, keep it up (the wind and cold don't help...but I guess it builds character).

Congratulations on a good tough run Kim! And you tacked on another mile, too!

From Tom on Tue, Nov 27, 2007 at 14:09:32

Man if the wind was anything like it was when I left for work you REALLY earned commando points!

Congrats on what sounds like maybe your first big runners high. The way you describe mile 4 and looking at your pace I would say you had the endorphines working for you. To bad they never last forever. Also gotta be careful when under the influence of endorphines not to go crazy and beat up the legs and get hurt. It will be interesting to see how you feel tomorrow.

Quite the adventure today it sounds like. That's a great thing about daily runs especially when you venture into new territories, you never know WHAT type crazy adventure might happen. That's one of the funnest thing on the blog is to see everyone's various escapades while running.

Holy Moly! Kim you are doing really well. Going far, going fast--in crazy terrain and into the wind, no less. For goodness sakes! You've been running longer than you've been on the blog, right? You are going to FLY in Moab!

From Kim on Tue, Nov 27, 2007 at 15:34:40

I don't think I'll FLY in Moab, (I will probably SEE a fly, but that's about it.) I am excited about Moab though. I hope we all get in. Tom and I have booked a cabin and are going to make a mini family vacation out of it.

As far as how long I have been running...I was up to 16 mile runs at about 10 minutes/mile in April of 2005. I had ran the Painter's half in January of that year. I had decided that I would work for a marathon in June. Unfortunately I had knee trouble and it put me down for awhile where it was easy to get out of the habit. I started up again the last week of August this year. I became serious when I joined the blog.

Wow Kim great job. Nice run and adventure all in one!

From Brent on Tue, Nov 27, 2007 at 19:32:09

Kim, no doubt, commando points for the gutsy, crazy run, uphill into the wind on purpose. The problem, you used some commando points today also. Given the weather, jumping fences, cross country, freezing face, etc. 20 commando points earned and 10 used. Net 10. No doubt, the fastblog running chicks are on the move. Men on the blog better crank up their training or they could be chicked at Moab. Last note, be careful out there, carry some pepper spray. Commando points are one thing, safety trumps commando points every time.

Awesome run! I always like it when my runs become an adventure. But that's probably because I don't really like running, but I do like adventuring.

From Michelle on Tue, Nov 27, 2007 at 20:16:31

YOU GO GIRL!!! If the wind and chill was anything there like it was in my village then you are tougher than me!!! Luckily getting up early with my husband I avoided that (YEA!!)

Sounds like you had a great run inspite of the crazy detours that went with it, and you really made the best of it by tacking on the extra mile!!! I haven't done an 8 mile run in quite sometime, the last time I did I had a lot of hip pain and so I'm a little gun shy. Time to follow your example and get back on that horse!!! Thanks for the inspiration!!!

From Kim on Tue, Nov 27, 2007 at 20:18:53

Brent,

Is using commando points a good thing or a bad thing?

Thanks everyone for the motivation you give!

From Brent on Tue, Nov 27, 2007 at 20:47:48

Kim, using commando points is the best thing. It means you hard work has been rewarded with runner's high.

Stay cool, B of BS Rools out
