Running Accomplishments:

I started running in the fall of 2007.  I truly believe I was inspired to start running and I have seen some very big blessings come my way because of following that inspiration.

Ran Boston Marathon 2013 & 2014.  My favorite PRs:  2011 at the SG 1/2 and 5K where I ran the 5K in 22:22.    2013 Nebo 1/2 (downhill) 1:36:15

Short-Term Running Goals:

Long-Term Running Goals:

Running throughout life with Tom. Staying healthy and happy.

Learn from others, learn from myself, work hard, do my best, enjoy!

On running and on life.....

On occasion we need to make a second effort - and a third effort, and a fourth effort, and as many degrees of effort as may be required to accomplish what we strive to achieve.

I thought I'd update those of you who are also having trouble with IT bands.  My PT has been recording my running today and talking to me about things that should improve my chances of staying away from this injury in the future.

One thing is something that we hear over and over again....176-180 steps per minute.  As he watched me at first I was more in the 164 range which causes me to have a strong heel strike.  When our heel hits like that it is a jarring and deacceleration movement.  With a shorter stride our foot hits more in the central and is used to propel you forward instead of jarring each and every step.  So one thing I need to work on is a quicker turn over.

The second item is something that surprised me.  He said that when I run my shoulders stay very squared, (which I've always thought was a smooth form).  He said our upper body needs to counteract what our lower body is doing.  I need to have more swing in my shoulders.

I am suppose to start running on a treadmill in 3 minute intervals.  First minute is a walk second minute hands to my chest and swing more and third minute make sure I get 88-89 per right foot strike per minute. I should repeat that interval 5-8 times  It will be interesting to see if anyone says that is not what I should do.

The other thing he said was that the 2-3 lbs I have gained is good for recovery!  I'll take that, even if he was just saying it to make me feel good.

Thank you Marion for being excited about my 2 big miles! I know you mean that Whoo Hooo from the bottom of your heart since you have been right where I am at. You are a big inspiration to my healing!

I was registered for this weekend but had something important come up. I called Ric today and he said I should be fine to come the next week. So I would love to join in the car pool if I can!

How are you today??? I was so excited to hear from you yesterday. I've been thinking about you and wondering how things are progressing. It sounds like your doc has formulated a plan for you. I am so excited to hear how it works out for you. Please keep us all up to date on the progress.

What great information! Thanks for sharing. Hmmm...I wonder...if 2-3 pounds are good, is 5-7 lbs. even better? Where's that Halloween candy?

I hope you recover quickly Kim. Good luck!

Hey you get to run - LUCKY!!! Hope things went well today as well. For some reason even though I can't run at the moment, it makes it easier for me if you can. Run one mile for me will ya!? Looking forward to when I can join you for a nice run-in-the-sun (or rain, or wind or snow...whatever...):-) Perhaps on Thanksgiving Day?
