Running Accomplishments:

I started running in the fall of 2007.  I truly believe I was inspired to start running and I have seen some very big blessings come my way because of following that inspiration.

Ran Boston Marathon 2013 & 2014.  My favorite PRs:  2011 at the SG 1/2 and 5K where I ran the 5K in 22:22.    2013 Nebo 1/2 (downhill) 1:36:15

Short-Term Running Goals:

Long-Term Running Goals:

Running throughout life with Tom. Staying healthy and happy.

Learn from others, learn from myself, work hard, do my best, enjoy!

On running and on life.....

On occasion we need to make a second effort - and a third effort, and a fourth effort, and as many degrees of effort as may be required to accomplish what we strive to achieve.

Four mile test run this morning.  Tom and I were going to get up and go before he had to go into work, but when the alarm went off we decided another hour of sleep would do us good today.  So I went out after Tom went to work and the kids were off to school.

I was a bit nervous with this first test.  I felt something...still trying to figure out what it is I felt.  Maybe stiffness from not running for a week?  Maybe stiffness from the injection?  Maybe phantom feelings?  Warning signals?  I don't know....but I do know it WASN'T pain!  I never felt pain!  There was no pain!  Pain was not there!  Ziltcho on the pain factor!  Granted...it was only 4 miles and my average pace was 9:17 but I felt NO PAIN!  I do understand that on Saturday it will be much longer than 4 miles and I'm hoping I'll have a faster average than 9:17, but as of right now I am slightly encouraged!

I think I will bike tomorrow and run on Wednesday and we'll take it from there.  (Did I mention there was NO PAIN this morning?!)

Yahoo! That makes my day that you survived the test run with NO PAIN! I'm thinking your chances for a great 1st marathon are still looking good. Let's just keep taking it easy this week, baby the knee, RICE, rest, relax and we'll be ready to ROCK on Saturday!

From Tom on Mon, Sep 29, 2008 at 11:18:11

Dang Josse you're too quick, I thought I was going to be the first to give Kim a comment, but you snuck in ahead of me. I wonder if this is some kind of sign about how the race will go Saturday?

From Cal on Mon, Sep 29, 2008 at 11:29:10

Good for you Kim. I'm happy for you!

From Kim on Mon, Sep 29, 2008 at 11:48:41

Cal, thanks for being happy for me when you are struggling now too. What happened on Friday? Did you do another test run?

Josse, I hope you got rid of the gumbo that you had! Thanks again for your help and encouragement!

Tom, You're the best! I'm sorry it's been such a hard week at our house. Life's stressful situations along with running withdrawls sometimes makes for a little break down once in a while. I think it's time to relax and do a crossword puzzle or something. :o) Let's get the minds off of stress! Love ya!

From James W on Mon, Sep 29, 2008 at 15:44:12

Glad to hear no pain :)

Have you been stretching it out good? Sounds like you got a cortisone injection, is that correct? Sorry, I haven't been following your blog, but have been thinking about you and wondering how your knee was doing.

From JeffC on Mon, Sep 29, 2008 at 16:13:55

Cortisone = NO PAIN

AWESOME!!! That is great news.

From Kim on Mon, Sep 29, 2008 at 23:09:35

What I got was a Kenalog shot. I assume it is like cortisone. I was a little nervous to get it, but it was really quite simple and pain free. I sure hope it is my magic ticket to make it across the finish line!

James, I keep telling myself I am going to be a better stretcher, but I still don't do it very often. I need to really incorporate that practice into my daily habits as I recover from this marathon.

We'll see lots of you Friday and Saturday! Here's to all of you! Hope there is enough race day magic for all of us!

That is great to hear.. Who did you end up going to see? My wife is debating what to do.

From Mike Warren on Tue, Sep 30, 2008 at 00:18:44

NO PAIN!! YEEEHAAAW!!!!

From marion on Tue, Sep 30, 2008 at 00:31:23

Kim- people wonder why I do so much yoga, but it is because I get injured so easily without it. I have tried doing the injury specific stretches, but then something else starts to bug. My break from yoga a few months ago is what is causing my current ITB problems in my hip. That ITB is one tough piece of work! Hopefully your doc gave you some great stretches. I am SO glad the shot is helping :D I know that Michelle and Josse have very rigorous stretching routines everyday. Maybe they have some great ideas too for the post work out stretch. Hang in there and try to enjoy this week. You are going to do GREAT at SGM!! :)

From Terry on Tue, Sep 30, 2008 at 09:02:36

Yea!! Kim is back!!

From tarzan on Tue, Sep 30, 2008 at 09:25:18

Kim - I'm glad to hear that the injection worked and you were pain free. Make sure you start hydrating and do some carbo loading later this week!

Good luck in St. George (I'll be waaaaayyyy behind you).

From ali on Wed, Oct 01, 2008 at 10:42:28

Good luck Kim. I just miss you at the night pizza thing. I hope you knee will hold up. I'm impressed with how you've taken this running thing on while spending some quality time with you hubby. I have a medical condition that keeps me from running (I'm allergic to it). Anyway good luck and have fun.
