Running Accomplishments:

I started running in the fall of 2007.  I truly believe I was inspired to start running and I have seen some very big blessings come my way because of following that inspiration.

Ran Boston Marathon 2013 & 2014.  My favorite PRs:  2011 at the SG 1/2 and 5K where I ran the 5K in 22:22.    2013 Nebo 1/2 (downhill) 1:36:15

Short-Term Running Goals:

Long-Term Running Goals:

Running throughout life with Tom. Staying healthy and happy.

Learn from others, learn from myself, work hard, do my best, enjoy!

On running and on life.....

On occasion we need to make a second effort - and a third effort, and a fourth effort, and as many degrees of effort as may be required to accomplish what we strive to achieve.

Update at midnight: I just got an email with my results. I actually did better than I thought. I thought I was 1:43:40 but it turns out I was 1:42:49. I was 8th out of 61 finishers in my age division.
My first Hobble Creek experience has been wrapped up. I'm not sure if Tom and I had the greatest rest last night. It seems like one or the other of us were up here and there. But I did sleep better than I thought I would. We left our house at 5:00 and were there to be the final people on the first bus up. It wasn't too chilly at the start so we weren't freezing there. (some people were, but they must be from Arizona or something.) I knew that it was probably going to be too warm in the last miles. Jill R. and I started out together. We wanted a better place in the lineup, but it was very crowded and hard to get where we wanted. It took a bit to get to the start line when the race began and then there were a lot of people to weave through for the first mile. It really slows you down when you have to do that. I'm going to try to get a better start spot from here on out. There are a lot of people who go up front and then just make you stumble over them....grrrrr! The first 3 or 4 miles seemed to go quite quickly to me, in fact, even up to about 7 or 8 I felt like the race was passing quickly. But that feeling changed! Especially miles 11 and 12, I think both of them were really 4 miles each! :) Anyway, I wanted to get under 1:45 and I did it. I wanted to be one of the top 100 women and I did that.(received a nice little medallion for that.) I wanted to be in the top 10 of my age division and I did that. I don't know the official time or my overall until the results come up. I know that I was 233 out of everyone, including men. I feel pretty good about that. I'll add my splits so I can analyze them. I know I probably went out too fast, (after the first crowded mile.) If I would have kept them a little slower I may have had a little more umph at the end. Oh well, I am happy with the race and my effort. 1. 8:35 2. 7:10 3. 7:27 4. 7:03 5. 7:33 6. 7:35 7. 7:55 8. 7:14 9. 8:06 10. 8:05 11. 8:21 12. 8:27 13. 8:18 .1 :44 Three things I learned today... 1. I know why the women Olympic marathoners wear next to nothing as they run. I wanted to strip down big time when that sun was shining down on me! (However, I refrained from doing so. :D) 2. I learned that, "Yes, I do want my hydration belt with me on the marathon!" (When Gu goes down it is nice to have the water right when you need it! 3. I really want my first goal for the marathon to be to finish! I will take any extras if they come, but I really want to focus on finishing and not being disappointed if I don't make a certain time. One final note....from my "may we's" from yesterday. I think I did all of them except I'm not quite sure I smiled as I crossed the finish line. I smiled really soon after, I'll have to take that for now and work on that better for the marathon where pictures will be taken!

Wow, great race. That's quite a PR you set today! From the little I know of the course, it doesn't look like you really slowed much towards the end. Keep up the great training and I think you've got a real shot at all 3 of your long term goals for STGM! Great work!

From Tom on Sat, Aug 23, 2008 at 16:36:26

Super duper performance today Kimi! You just keep getting better and better (not just with the running :)). Too bad you got stuck further back in the pack than where you deserved to be. You would have been a minute or so quicker for sure! You ROCK!

From Bonnie on Sat, Aug 23, 2008 at 16:59:24

Congratulations on a great race Kim!! Things are progressing nicely for SGM, I am very excited for you!

From marion on Sat, Aug 23, 2008 at 17:01:15

Great race Kim! You may not have been smiling but your pony tail was TOO stinkin' cute!!! You did great!!! It was wonderful to see all of the FRB singlets!

From Terry on Sat, Aug 23, 2008 at 17:06:23

Great job Kim. It's good to have some tough miles at the end of a half to make you realize that when you do the full Marathon you want to take the first 13 miles easy.

From tarzan on Sat, Aug 23, 2008 at 17:07:40

Great race Kim! Sounds like you have big things ahead of you at St G! I know what you mean - about mile 15 of the marathon today I kept pouring water down my back and considered stripping down to my running bra on top. It was hot day.

From Andy on Sat, Aug 23, 2008 at 17:12:40

Congratulations on meeting all of your goals. I'm amazed at how much you have improved this year.

From kobyhud on Sat, Aug 23, 2008 at 17:14:37

I looked for you. But apparently I was totally blind because somehow I managed to miss someone with purple hair. My wife noticed and laughed that I hadn't. I was hoping to do about the same pace as you. I have no idea where I actually ended up because I wasn't watching the clock at the line either.

From Christi on Sat, Aug 23, 2008 at 17:40:16

Congrats Kim! What a wonderful time & so cool to be in the top 100! You're on FIRE!

From Kelli on Sat, Aug 23, 2008 at 18:13:37

Great race!! I think we all slowed down towards the end just because of the HEAT alone. It was toasty!

I think you will do more than just finish in St George! You will be awesome!

From Clay on Sat, Aug 23, 2008 at 18:50:03

Kim, those are some great splits. You ran an awesome race!

From Brent on Sat, Aug 23, 2008 at 20:07:11

Kim, you a very good runner, you should always be in the 4th or 5th row now. *Note, you should crowd up towards the front at St.George. Although it is chipped, you still lose valuable time back in the pack. You did look "cute" with the pony tail. Also, you looked very fresh when you passed the crazy guy running in the weeds. Commando Points: 500 for the PR, 100 for the purple pony tail.

Stay Kool, Keep Smiling, B of BS Rools out

Kim, great job! You achived alot of goals today. Also, some pretty speedy miles, almost in the 6's on mile 2. Plus, very tough and frustrating, getting caught in the back. I like your attitude for STGM, you are going to have a blast.

From Jody on Sun, Aug 24, 2008 at 01:55:06

Kim - You did such a great job! Your splits are amazing! SGM Here you come! You are so ready to have a great race!

Excellent.

I like hydration belts, eventhough I don't hydrate that much on a run. I like being able to drink at my pace and not choke it down at he aid stations.

I have found someting nice, it is a GU flask (just like a mini water bottle).

See; http://www.getgu.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=getgu&Product_Code=190&Category_Code=

I hooks to the bike--but I bought a big container of the GU/ (or in this case it was Hammer Gel), but I have to water it down to get it out of the flask. I think it makes taking the GU much easier on the stomach and the mechanics of it. I open the top like a water bottle and down a shot of GU and I am done. No opening packets, no trash, no slime going down the esophagus. It looks like there is a belt holder for the run. I need to buy the belt holder and one more bike mount so I have one for both bikes.

Watered down GU--the Breakfast of champions!!

COngrats on a great race! Every race you do you will learn more and more and figure out what works for you and your bodyand what doesnt. I am still learning! It was great to meet and talk with you and Tom at the end. And we will have to get s run set up when you two come down for your anniversary!

From Ian on Sun, Aug 24, 2008 at 10:50:00

Well done Kim, great race. You've worked hard for this result and deservedly achieved all the goals you set for this race. I agree with you not setting a time goal for your first marathon, just finish, enjoy it and smile.

From josse on Sun, Aug 24, 2008 at 15:51:43

What the...WOW! Look at those splits! I remember a time not too long ago that you were fondly wishing you could maintain 7:30 pace for more than 30 seconds. What a fabulous job!
