Running Accomplishments:

I started running in the fall of 2007.  I truly believe I was inspired to start running and I have seen some very big blessings come my way because of following that inspiration.

Ran Boston Marathon 2013 & 2014.  My favorite PRs:  2011 at the SG 1/2 and 5K where I ran the 5K in 22:22.    2013 Nebo 1/2 (downhill) 1:36:15

Short-Term Running Goals:

Long-Term Running Goals:

Running throughout life with Tom. Staying healthy and happy.

Learn from others, learn from myself, work hard, do my best, enjoy!

On running and on life.....

On occasion we need to make a second effort - and a third effort, and a fourth effort, and as many degrees of effort as may be required to accomplish what we strive to achieve.

I got cleaning the storage room and almost forgot to blog!  *gasp*  That's almost like forgetting to breathe!  Today was just a nice easy 5 miler.  Kellie P joined me for 4 of those.  She is really doing good.  I wish she had the desire to blog, but she doesn't.

Tomorrow I get to do a 4 mile tempo run.  Tom will help me through the last four miles of the Speedy Spaniard 10K that I will be running next Thursday.

I think about the marathon A LOT!  Is that a good thing?  I am so excited about getting in, about the training, and looking forward to running 26.2 miles on October 4th!  Is that a good thing?  I would assume that for the most part it is.  However, sometimes I wonder if I get too excited that I will have the potential to set myself up for disappointment.  I am trying to work on my mental toughness to help me through the rough spots.  I visualize all kinds of things that could go wrong and go right.  Whenever I think of something going wrong I visualize a way to make it turn out right.  Am I now an official "running looney"?

You are so inspirational! I am so glad EVERY DAY that you told me about this blog! How do you get mentally tough? I just PRAY like a mad woman whe things get rough ;) It's hard to imagine that anything you want SO badly can go wrong.

Kim everyone's a little looney in one way or another but being a "running looney" is a very special kind of looniness that only very few attain. Be proud! And don't be a worry wart! (I know you're thinking...."who is HE to talk about not being worry wart!"....), just enjoy the journey, be thankful for what our bodies allow us to do, and have FUN! The actual race itself will just be the frosting on the cake!

Thanks Marion, but did you mean "perperational" instead of "inspirational"? :D

Tom...You know how much I love frosting! Yummmmmm....nothing can go wrong with frosting!

Kim, I think it's entirely normal to think about the marathon a lot. I think about it all the time! It is a big experience that requires a lot of preparation, physically and mentally. Luckily, you are surrounded by (and, helpfully, married to one too) a lot of experienced runners who are helping you train smart. You're also doing the right thing by mentally preparing. As far as setting yourself up for disappointment, you seem to have expectations in line with your training, so you should be fine. Tom is right: the race will be the icing on the cake! I think you will really enjoy it and do well. Be proud to be a running looney!

Hi Kim, I think thinking about the marathon is great! Although, I would temper it just a little with long term as well, meaning "having a healthy life", "running with Coach Tom forever", getting better all the time, etc. The only reason I say this is if you focus on one tree you miss the forest, and the forest is actually the most important overall.

I only noticed today that St. George is on my birthday! I will be giving a talk in Taiwan on that day - otherwise I would definately come to St. George to cheer you on, I can't think of a more exciting birthday (especially for 46!).

Good Luck on the tempo run tomorrow! Have fun!

Hey, that's cool, Bonnie, Oct.4 is my birthday also. I love running the marathon on my birthday.

Kim--I think about the marathon a lot also. It will be my 10th time and I think I'm more excited about this time than all the others. I'm definitely training harder this go around. I think it's good to be enthusiastic and excited about it.
