Running Accomplishments:

I started running in the fall of 2007.  I truly believe I was inspired to start running and I have seen some very big blessings come my way because of following that inspiration.

Ran Boston Marathon 2013 & 2014.  My favorite PRs:  2011 at the SG 1/2 and 5K where I ran the 5K in 22:22.    2013 Nebo 1/2 (downhill) 1:36:15

Short-Term Running Goals:

Long-Term Running Goals:

Running throughout life with Tom. Staying healthy and happy.

Learn from others, learn from myself, work hard, do my best, enjoy!

On running and on life.....

On occasion we need to make a second effort - and a third effort, and a fourth effort, and as many degrees of effort as may be required to accomplish what we strive to achieve.

My first race report! I am happy to say I beat my previous PR by 12 minutes! I was sad that I ended up running alone. I was looking forward to running with at least Michelle and Lybi, and possibly Christi. Due to unforeseen circumstances, I ended up alone. I didn't even think to bring my mp3 player along. It was fun to see what I could do with my very own willpower though. I don't remember what was going through my mind with every mile and every turn. I do know that on every hill I was saying, "too many up hills! wasn't prepared for this!" I didn't ever end up talking to anyone along the way except for one older man who wasn't liking the up hills either. He chatted with me for about 30 seconds and then kindly bid me farewell and good luck as he left me in his dust.

One highlight of the run is when the ones in the lead had to backtrack past us and I was lucky enough to slap a high five to the hubby! It made me kind of the celebrity in that little pack for a minute when they all found out he was my husband and he was rippin' up the course! (check out his race report if you haven't already!) At mile 10 Tom gave me a quick call on the cell phone and said he had done it in 1:23...he would have been happy with 1:27! Way to go Tom! Anyway, I wasn't real chatty on the phone at the moment and quickly said goodbye.

Around mile 12 I started feeling a little pooped out. It was there that I saw Sasha coming toward me with someone else. I yelled out to him that I was probably the last FBR dude or dudette on the course. Maybe not the best thing to do...Sasha quickly turned around and was my personal coach the rest of the way. He made me do the low five thing. I told him I would do it once but that was all. When I did it I didn't know if I was going to make it beyond that. I told him, "I can't!" He said, "I can't is a swear word." So I told him, "OK, then I just swore!" He continued with the Bingo, ta ta ta ta ta... ! Tom showed up shortly after to offer his help too. He has had Sasha helping him through a tough race before also, so he knew how I was feeling. Anyway, Tom and Sasha had to fade away just before the finish line and I came through the very quiet crowd at the finish line. raised my arms and told them to "give me something!" So they all started cheering for me and giving my the high fives!

There was a crowd of us coming in at that time and they messed up the lines a bit. Some that came in about 2 or 3 minutes behind me got in front of me in the number take off chute. There were plenty of people that wanted to cause a big ruckus, but I don't think we had much in us at that point to do much about it. So my official time is 2:05:43, but because I was in the middle of the pack when we started and the ruckus at the end I am saying 2:05 even. I feel very good about my effort and am thankful to everyone who has helped me make it this far, especially Tom and even Sasha!

Kim congrads on the PR and silver medal, awesome, you are too hard on yourself, a PR by 12 minutes, great way to start the year. 50 commando points. You will break 2 hours at the striders half, no doubt, without Gwen.

Your fast and getting faster, B of BS Rools out

From Mik'L on Sat, Jan 19, 2008 at 20:08:31

Good job! It was fun to finally meet you! I think you did awesome. Way to put up with Sasha at the end too! :) Funny too. And to do it all without a buddy or music! That's a real accomplishment in my eyes!

From Michelle on Sat, Jan 19, 2008 at 20:36:49

Sounds like you went and conquered that "tough" sounding course! Way to get it done! I'm sooo sorry you ended up without music, friends... but that shows that you had a lot of strength to plow through alone!!! Hope you guys had a good time at the party too! I'm now sooo looking forward to the Striders, and hope that I can stay motivated to keep pushing myself so I'll be ready. Sometimes it takes those races in between to keep you hungry! I'm so proud of you, sounds like you were brave and strong and had a great PR!!!

From Sylvie on Sat, Jan 19, 2008 at 20:59:42

Good job Kim! Unfortunatly every race course has hills, evan ones that say all down hill, don't beleive it. I really dislike hills because my asthms kicks-up on them. But somehow you get use to the pesky things.

Keep racing.

See ya

Hey Kim! Great job!!! Going solo & no IPOD even! I really wanted to meet you. Sorry we didn't hook up! Sasha did the exact same thing to me for the last 2 miles, he ran me in with the low five routine. I was loving and hating him at the same time- but he made me reach my goal- so mostly I'm loving him!! AGAIN- Darn- that we didn't meet, next time!

From Bethany on Sat, Jan 19, 2008 at 21:21:26

YEAH KIM! What a great race! I am so impressed with your guts. I would have been crying to myself the entire time. What a huge PR and amazing effort. What are you racing next? (If you can even stand to think about that..) PS I think you deserve to take the earlier time, makes sense to me!

From JohnA on Sat, Jan 19, 2008 at 22:02:01

A 12 minute PR is awsome. You are now an official running junkie. Keep up the good work.

The girls basketball team played pretty well today.

From Lybi on Sat, Jan 19, 2008 at 22:18:09

Great job Kim! *Blush* I am so sorry that I wasn't there to run with you! Wow! a 12 minute PR! Boy, the Lee's really domintated today, didn't they! You guys are awesome. Thanks for being an inspiration.

From Clay on Sat, Jan 19, 2008 at 23:17:46

Nice job Kim you and Tom rocked the house!!! I am so happy for you guys...

From Tom on Sat, Jan 19, 2008 at 23:24:16

Hey babe you did PHENOMENAL TODAY!!!! A 12 minute PR on just a few months of training after a long break with no running at all. That is pretty AMAZING I think!

When we found out your plans to run with the other FRB chicas wasn't going to work today I was so conflicted and thinking I should be running this one with you. Thanks so much for encouraging me to go ahead and go for it and run my best so that we BOTH could have the best race of our lives so far! You are awesome! Thanks for being my biggest cheerleader and support the last while. I so very much appreciate all you do for me! Love you!

From Paul T on Sun, Jan 20, 2008 at 01:53:27

I hope Tom isn't offended, but I think I'm more impressed with what you did today than with what he did...and what he did was nothing short of amazing. But he was in a "euphoric state" (his words) for only 1:23 to set his PR. You endured a much less pleasant experience, for a longer time, to valiantly and triumphantly achieve your personal victory. I'm thrilled that you and Tom could share such a wonderful double dose of triumph together. You are both awesome.

From Steve Hooper on Sun, Jan 20, 2008 at 11:25:01

Wow - way to go with your PR that's great! Keep it up!

From MichelleL on Sun, Jan 20, 2008 at 11:48:20

Great job Kim! What a great PR! Hearing you cheer for me as we crossed paths toward the end actually helped me a lot. You are so tough to do it on your own! What a lady!

From crumpyb1 on Sun, Jan 20, 2008 at 20:16:57

Congratulations on a PR! And by 12 minutes! Wow! Awesome running.
