Running Accomplishments:

I started running in the fall of 2007.  I truly believe I was inspired to start running and I have seen some very big blessings come my way because of following that inspiration.

Ran Boston Marathon 2013 & 2014.  My favorite PRs:  2011 at the SG 1/2 and 5K where I ran the 5K in 22:22.    2013 Nebo 1/2 (downhill) 1:36:15

Long-Term Running Goals:

Running throughout life with Tom. Staying healthy and happy.

Learn from others, learn from myself, work hard, do my best, enjoy!

On running and on life.....

On occasion we need to make a second effort - and a third effort, and a fourth effort, and as many degrees of effort as may be required to accomplish what we strive to achieve.

Tom and I went out in the nice sunshine for a 5 miler.  I love that 5 miles is feeling like not a big deal to do.  The hardest part is getting the gear on and getting out the door!  Today I was overdressed with the sun coming down hard on us.  No complaining here though!  :o)  We came across one other runner which happened to be my running buddy, Beth.  We haven't been running together over the holidays.   She said this was her first time out during the break.  She said she felt good though.  I think she is still planning on doing Painter's.  If she does, then I will be running it slow with her.  However, Tom and I don't think she is ready for a half.  We are afraid she is going to injure herself.  But she is very determined to do it.  I would like to have her put in a few more months and do a different half.  We have actually talked about doing our own  "NordLee Half Marathon" right here in Spanish Fork.  NordLee is a combination of our last names.  Tom would be a great race director and have water stops, finish line and medals for us.  I think it sounds kind of fun.  In fact, we would come in first and second overall!  (I would even be glad to take second on that).    I'll have to talk to her and see what she thinks.  I don't want to discourage her, but I sure don't want her pushing it when she isn't ready.  A half marathon is not like a marathon, but I believe it is still long enough that you should  really be ready for it!  Sorry, that was rambling.

Kim I would be delighted to be the "race director" for your NordLee 1/2!. I agree this would be a wiser thing for Beth than doing Painters. With the mileage base currently has she is just asking for a nasty injury if she goes thru with it. I would hate to see her have to quit running altogether now that she is just getting into the habit.

Kim, if your friend Beth does run? If you feel she is determined and may not be ready, I would suggest walking the water stops to give her a break. Also, listen to her breathing, if she is totally out of breath and working too hard, stop and walk a few times. I do worry about runners not ready trying longer races. You are a good running buddy to run her race. Lastly, if you think that you are in PR shape, I'm not sure I would run with her unless you have already committed. I have a few running buddies, we have a deal, if we start together and stay together fine. But, if anyone feels good, go for it.

Kim you are truely a good friend! I was kinda hoping that you and Lybi and I could try and hand together for the half, But I understand if you have already agreed! There is always another day and race! She is lucky to have you to push her along!

I think that is great that you have

Beth running. Exercise helps in so many other ways than just getting in shape. I think you are wise to put it off, and I like the idea of a goal that you both can work for . . . very movitating.

Keep up the good work.

I agree with Brent. Taking walk breaks if they are necessary is the right thing to do. I'm not afraid to admit that I stop and walk if my breathing gets too heavy. Of course, I don't really know how to push myself past the pain, but I do so enjoy breathing. It's one of those things I can't get enough of.

Nice job getting the miles in. I can't wait for the day that 5 miles feels comfortable. Keep it up!
