My calves were still a little tight from Saturday's race, but I started to feel pretty good after a mile and a half or so. Increased my turnover a bit, but didn't push too hard. Should be good for at least 50 this week. My total focus now is getting ready for St. George (25 training days + 14 days taper = 39 days).

Good run this morning. Got started a few minutes earlier than normal and saw a few bikers that I don't normally run into. I had my headlamp on as I was running south towards the entrance of the Adventure Park when I saw a very strange object reflecting light back to me, moving across the road from right to left. I was startled for a few moments until I was able to make out the dark shape of a deer bounding across the road. I paused for a moment to make sure there weren't any more heading my way. My calves were feeling just a little tight the first mile or so, but I felt great after that. Pushed it harder the last couple of miles.

Took the turn at the HS this morning instead of continuing north to the park entrance. Added the missed distance and a little more to the end of my run. Felt good this morning. No lingering aches and pains. My blood pressure yesterday afternoon was 109/70 and my pulse was 42. I feel like I'm fully recovered from a workout or race when my resting pulse drops back down to the low 40's. I was bothered a bit by bowel problems this morning and Laureen was sick when I got back. It might have been something we ate last night.

Nice run this morning, just a little cooler than it has been. Starting out I thought it might have been nice to have some cotton gloves. Ran to the top of Redwood Drive on the way back. It's pretty dark along the creek trail even at 6:20.

Took it easy this morning as my lower back was a bit sore. It eventually eased up, but the soreness never completely disappeared. It should be all right by tomorrow (I think I must have just slept in a weird position).

Had a great run with Paul and Verdon up Provo Canyon. We started off about 6:30 with a stiff head wind keeping us from going out too fast. The wind died down as we got further up the canyon and it turned into an absolutely gorgeous morning with perfect temperatures. It took about an hour and a half to get to the gate at Trefoil Ranch. We met Verdon about a mile or so from the top. Paul wasn't having a great day (after having worn himself out the day before), but we ran together down to Vivian. Paul wanted to rest at that point and insisted I go on ahead. After a mile or so, I was joined by another runner named Jared. It was nice to have the company. We kept up a nice pace to the end. Finished in 2:47. Average heart rate was 144 which is well below my marathon threshold rate.
