This was our second race for the runner's series. We'd planned this as a family run, but our daughter had a track meet in Orem that she needed to be at, so just my wife and I ran it. She was first in her age group.

I didn't wear a watch so I don't know my splits. I started off a little fast as it was cold and I wanted to get clear of the pack. After about fifty yards I was clear and from there to the end, I was only passed once and passed one. I followed a young twenty-something guy for the whole race and caught up to him with about a half mile to go. We chatted briefly and he then pushed a little harder to the end. I think he might have been motivated by the idea of not getting beat by an old guy. Felt like I'd given it my best effort, but was surprised when about ten minutes after the race I got really wheezy and congested. I think it was allergies kicking in. Later in the day I got one of the worst sinus headaches I've ever had, so I'm glad I was able to get through the race OK.
