Weekly temple route tempo run. Improved average pace by six seconds from last week with slightly less effort (average heart rate dropped 2 bpm). Felt pretty good, although I occasionally have a twinge of pain in my right achilles tendon. I do need some new shoes.

Good work! How fast was the pace?

For new shoes, go to Wasatch Running - I am of course biased because I run for them.

1st mile: 8:26 (downhill, warmup)

2nd mile: 8:10 (downhill, relaxed pace)

3rd mile: 8:14 (flat to rolling, relaxed pace)

4th mile: 9:08 (uphill, hard effort)

5th mile: 7:59 (half up, half down, hard effort)

Total time was 41:35, an improvement over last week's 42:18.

This is starting to look really good. Your three fastest miles added up beat your recent 5 K performance. Approximately what kind of uphill grade was the 4th mile?

From Kerry on Fri, May 05, 2006 at 11:43:40

Thanks. The steady uphill section is 1.5 miles long and is a 2.9 percent grade.
