When I left the house it was cold and it looked like it was partly cloudy. After about half a mile, the wind started to pick up and it started snowing lightly. By the time I'd turned the corner at the white church and headed north on 40th, I was running into a headwind and the snow was coming down hard enough that I had to take my glasses off to see at all. I pushed the pace a little from the start just because it was cold and I seemed to be breathing a bit harder that usual going up the hill on 40th. My overall pace was slightly faster than last week and my average heart rate was lower (both good signs), but it seemed like more of a struggle, perhaps due more to the weather.

This is the kind of run that makes a difference between reaching your potential and not reaching it. There is not enough good weather and other circumstances in a year to get in enough mileage otherwise.
