Personal:

My wife, Teresa, has stayed by my side for over 21 years and I am a much better person as a result. Kristoffer, our only child, is now 15 and continues to exceed all my expectations. If you look in the dictionary under the word luck you will see my smiling face.

The Figures
Distance: 4 mi Time: 51'28" Avg Pace: 12'50"/mi

Summary:

I have to stop caring about my pace. I started off a bit too fast, tried to slow up a bit and ended up going too slow then speeding up, then slowing down, etc. I just don't have enough control over it right now and feel that instead I should return to focusing on chewing up miles. Perhaps only really push my pace on one 2 miler each week and then let the others flow. Much better job today trying to get my calories in on my normal schedule with 190 calories added about 2 hours before the run. Plenty of water today: clear going in and clear coming out. Definitely felt better at the start of my run. Look forward to getting home and back into a somewhat normal routine before heading off again a week from today. A week from today!? Jiminitly this travel schedule stinks.

What happens with your diet when you travel?

Something is wrong with your numbers - 39:47 for 4 miles is sub-10:00, not 12:50.

Congratulations on the progress.

Thanks for catching my mistake Sasha. When copying the time from my spreadsheet I drifted a line and got yesterday's time.

My diet gets totally screwed up if I am not careful. I have great success eating 5 times a day while I am at home where I have easy access to my granola, yogurt and fresh fruit. When I am on the road I am a bit limited in that I must eat breakfast at the hotel (it's free but the best fiber I can manage is about 20% in the cereals they offer) and if I want snacks during the day I must carry them in each morning. It just adds a bit of hassle finding a grocery store, buying what I want, making sure I get it each morning, etc. Eating out is not so much of a problem because I just focus on limiting my intake by controlling the choices I make and reducing how much I actually eat.

We'll see how well I did on this trip when I return home on Thursday.
