4 miles 1% incline .5 at 10:00 pace to warm up 3.5 at 8:28 (7.1) I wanted to do four at this pace but stopped early not so much out of pain or fatigue but just because I could... I really need to learn some of those Jedi, ninja or Rhett mind tricks to stay on the treadmill when want to get off.   At the time I thought "I can't go any farther" but sitting here I know I could have.  STINK!  This is just slightly faster than the pace I want to go at painters.  I am not sure how I think I can run 13.1 at this pace when I cant even do 4.

Nice job. Perhaps the treadmill calibration is off and you were actually running faster than you thought. (I know on my home treadmill that is always the case.)

I read the other day that when running against other people, one runs up to 20% faster than when runnning alone. Somehow the race day makes us all run a bit faster. A little tapering and some carbs go a long way also. I find that when I want to quit the tread mill, I just tell myself 1/2 mile more and if I still feel bad I can get off. Usually after that 1/2 mile I'm feeling a bit better and am able to keep on going. No matter how bad I feel, I can always do 1/2 mile more. Good run by the way!

great job Kathie....

Hey, the lower elevation at Painter's will help for sure.

Don't be discouraged. Treadmill running can be harder both mentally and/or physically. (there's a lot of factors involved) You can't necessarily equate the pace with that on the road. Plus you have the raceday magic to keep in mind...

From Smooth on Tue, Dec 30, 2008 at 00:41:50

Kathie, I agree with what everyone has said. Good tempo run today. You're working so hard, you deserve to PR at Painter's.

From JeffC on Tue, Dec 30, 2008 at 11:19:38

Kathie...WOW! 7:28/mile that is awesome. Weather you run that pace at Painter's or not, that is still a really nice tempo run. Keep doing those kind of runs and you will see some amazing PRs this year. Also, the Jedi mind tricks will improve as you continue to do these runs, your mind just learns to deal with it when it figures out your body can handle it.

From Kathie on Tue, Dec 30, 2008 at 12:20:43

Sorry to disappoint Jeff but the 7:28 should have been an 8:28 maybe it was wishful thinking.

From Teena on Tue, Dec 30, 2008 at 12:29:00

Kathie,

Amen to what has already been said. Plus ... some days are just plain harder than other days. I am especially feeling it with all of the holiday stuff, food, activities ... i'm simply not in my routine. No worries!! You will do AWESOME at Painters!!

From JeffC on Tue, Dec 30, 2008 at 12:29:57

7:28 or 8:28 who's counting anyway, you'll still smoke Painter's and it's still a very nice run. If it hurts a little, it's good!!!

BTW could you get those dang BYU shirts off the blog please. I'm not a BYU fan but I rooted for them at the Las Vegas Bowl and they played like crap and all I got was frozen fingers and toes. :)

From Kathie on Tue, Dec 30, 2008 at 12:36:02

The BYU shirts should be long gone. I now have a picture of me with my sisters and mom on our cruse.

From JeffC on Tue, Dec 30, 2008 at 13:16:25

I was only kidding about the BYU shirts. I only hate BYU when they are playing Utah State, otherwise they are bearable. I mean all my dang tithing money goes there anyway....:) The weird thing about the avatars is if I don't actually click refresh while on the page it could be awhile before I see someones new avatar. Don't know if it's just me, Internet explorer or if everyone has this problem.

I hope the cruise was fun and you didn't need to use the life jackets again.
