Three miles @ 9:13 pace 1% incline

Lifted for hamstring, triceps, and abs

Gravitron 3 sets of 6@ 100 pounds.  The sixth one was really hard!

Spin class

OK here is the question of the day.  My legs are shot!  The 9:13 this morning felt hard when normally it is totally easy.  Spin class was also harder than normal.  So my question is - is this a good thing does that mean I have had a good hard week or have I pushed it too far?  What should I do tomorrow?  I normally do the elliptical at 11% incline and try to get 6 miles in under 43 minutes and then a yoga class (don't even try and talk me out of yoga!)

Sorry I guess that is more than one question!

Some days, running is just a little more difficult. If I were you, I'd make sure to eat well today, get a good night's sleep (both of which help along recovery, which is probably what your body is asking for), and go for your regularly scheduled workout tomorrow. If the excess fatigue continues to be a problem for several days or a week, take a day or two off, but one day of having dead legs just happens sometime. Best of luck to you.

I agree. I think it means you've just got in some good work and since you have a month still till your goal race, I'd just keep up with normal schedule. I find that after I work through some tired legs, I usually have a break through some time in the next week or two. That will be just in time to start taking it down a notch in prep for you PR at Painter's.

Listen to your body is my advice. If you are over you sickness I would just make sure you dont over do it again to soon and end up sick again. That is the caution side of me. The other side is to say dont do too many hard days in a row. I have found on days after a hard lifting with legs day or sometimes 2. Its great to do the spin classes to get rid of all that soreness. I love the xtraining for just that. Just listen to your body.

Looking at your running log this week. You did two tempo runs in a row the last two days. Correct me if I'm wrong. So yes, I think you've had a good hard week.

"The hard day/easy day training principle: hard training provides a stimulus for your body to improve, but rest is then needed to allow your body to recover and adapt to a higher level. Three reasons to follow this principle are: 1) to prevent glycogen depletion, 2) to prevent illness, and 3) to minimize the effects of delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS)." p.66 (Advanced Marathoning)

Physiologically, each person responds differently to training and recovering. There are different factors that affect recovery rate. Some can handle two hard days follow by a day of rest, or one hard day follow by a day of active recovery.

I agree with what's been said: listen to your body. It's probably asking for a good recovery day today. Tomorrow it might say it's ready for active recovery in the form of cross training.

We've all experienced "dead legs" days. Your pace today was probably a good recovery pace.

Take good care and rest up today. I know tomorrow you'll be a new woman!
