2014 TENTATIVE RACING SCHEDULE:
TBD

Short-Term Running Goals:

Run 6-days a week and maintain a decent base level of fitness. Upwards of 50-60 per week would be great. Adjust to my new work position, use time wisely, and keep negative stress at bay. Hopefully make a good run at Ogden this spring.

Balance family, work, running, and the other important things in my life.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Enjoy running and continue doing it consistently. Stay healthy and avoid injury as much as possible. Have fun!

Continue chasing PRs while I still can, particularly in the marathon and half marathon. Explore new races, improve training, build friendships, and learn from the wisdom and experience of the numerous great runners here in Utah. Run well into my old age.

Personal:

I live in Sandy, UT with my wife (Lindsay) and 2 kids. I love running the roads through my neighborhood and near Little Cottonwood Canyon. I also do a fair amount of treadmill running at the Life Centre Athletic Club. Aside from running, I love road and moutain cycling.

Hobbler Half Marathon 2013

Just a short report for now... Good race. Felt good, had a lot of fun. About 45-second improvement on last year's time. It was great to see/run with fellow-bloggers Mike, Matt, Toni, and Dave. Left the house in the morning with the strange feeling I had forgotten something. Got halfway to Springville and realized it was the Garmin. So this one was all going to be according to effort. For approximate split times, see Matt Poulsen's post. I was will him through 12.

Ran with the lead pack of Matt, Mike, and Nate Jewkes (the USU stud who won handily) for the first 4 or 5 miles. Right around the 5 mark, Nate made his move and strung us out. I was in third position a few seconds behind Matt. Mike wasn't feeling that great and fell back ulitmately finishing in 1:15. I stayed even with or slightly behind Matt pretty much the whole race. It was awesome. Very grateful to have shared the race with him. Wish I could have given him a better fight the last mile, but by the 12-mile mark I mentally threw in the towel and decided I wasn't going to be able to out-kick the Terminator!... Rematch at Hobble Creek next month! :)

Nice 5.5 mile cool down with aforementioned bloggers around the Dave's Springville neighborhood, including a little bit on the grass at the park before the awards.

A.M.#2 - Shake-out ride to up to Guardsman's and back (~50 miles). Great temps for a ride.

Good run Justin. Sounds like this is a deceptively rolling course, so a real big improvement from UV last month. Looking good!

It was fun running with you Justin, if ever so briefly. BTW, 50 mile rides up Gardsman's pass do not qualify as Shake-out rides! You're an animal.

45 seconds faster than last year ='s someones looking for a marathon PR come fall. Good job man. I've got my first 100+ mile ride and bike race all in one this Saturday. Desperado in Panguitch. You should come!

Nice race, Justin! I'd say a 45 second improvement = marathon PR this fall as well. You're looking very strong right now. I'm guessing that I will see you at the Timp 1/2 as well as Hobble. Looking forward to running those canyons with you.

Excellent race, Justin! Very impressive. Truly an honor to have run the whole race with you. A total blast.

There I was, posting my race report and licking my wounds, while you were doing a 50-mile "shake-out" bike ride. Of course, I am not surprised! Nice work!

@ Jake - Thanks. I hope to keep improving little-by-little as the season progresses. You deserve all of the success you've got coming to you.

@ Mike - It was great running with you. Sorry your tummy wasn't cooperating. Otherwise I know you would have been right up there with Matt.

@ Superfly - We'll see on the PR. Dude, your bike & running volume is amazing this year. Excited to see you burn it up at LoToJa. I hope our paths can cross. It would be a lot of fun to end up in the same start group. I'd love to work with you guys. Albeit you're training much harder than me and would probably clean my clock. Good luck at Desperado. Wish I could make it happen. Hey, you should consider coming up here for the Ultimate Challenge on Aug 10th.

@ Scott - Yes. I'm planning on doing both of those and am fully expecting you to put the hurt on everyone else again. Good luck at Draper Days this week. Should be a good speed primer for Timp.

@ Matt - Likewise. It was a ton of fun. Looking forward to doing it again at Hobble and SGM, if I can keep up :)
