I have five cute kids. And I have some rockin short green racing shorts- I wear them mainly because it embarrasses my wife so much. AM- Justin and I ran from Rocky Bottom up to Mt Sassafras (highest point in SC), a few miles past, then back to the car.  Then we ran up Sassafras again.  Yup, we aren't too bright.  Justin was pretty beat by the end, but I started feeling real good the last couple hours- I actually ran the 4 miles down from the mtn 10 minutes faster the second time than the first.  22 miles, 4:38 with 6500 feet climbing.

I ran 32 miles Mon-Wed, then finished Thu-Sat with 60 more.  So I ended up with decent mileage.  Very high mileage next week with the Camp Croft marathon Saturday as a training run before starting my taper for Waldo 100k a few weeks later.

Looks like the UROC keeps getting better for this year- Nick Clark just signed on.  Almost makes me wish I was doing it.  But Waldo in Aug, StumpJump 50k in Oct, and TNF 50 in Dec is plenty for me.

Did I tell you I met Nick Clark a couple weeks ago? He ran the local July 4th 5k...I think it was less than a week after his Western States run. He calked the 5k "a good cooldown".

No, you didn't mention that. He's a nice guy, and very famous (in the admittedly small ultra world). He has pretty good leg speed, too, though I can't imagine he did well at a 5k one week after WS.

We also met a few runners at Hardrock from Fort Collins who were crewing a guy there.

It's a shame you live so close to the mountains and don't do major trail runs and ultras. How about you either trade me houses, or start running ultras? Sound good?

I think he ran about 17:45, although he's usually mid-16s. He actually does quite a few of the road races around here.

I signed up on the FoCo trail runner yahoo list-serve, but haven't ran with anyone yet. After my half matathon in early August I need to hit the trails to get my quads in shape for the 25k in September, which has 3000' of ascent, followed by 3000' of drop...I'm really not ready for that, but it should be a good challenge to train for something new. There is a good trailhead that links to a lot of stuff, about 5 min drive from my house. I liked the trails and mountains in Cache Valley much better, though. Good stuff was a lot more accessible there. I'm not too impressed with the CO foothills, after living so close to Smithfield Canyon, Birch Canyon, and other gems.

That 25k looks like fun- and it's less than half the vert of Logan Peak, so you've got experience on that. But toughening the quads is definitely smart.

Yes, Utah is unique with the very close proximity of the steep mountains. Colorado has more foothills before getting to the big stuff.
