Wow, fast race if that time got 14th. Great run, awesome to get that close to a PR on ultra training.

From Rob Murphy on Sat, Jan 21, 2012 at 12:14:33 from 76.27.122.13

I had no idea you were that fast. All I can say is the Greenville running scene has dramatically improved if a 16:34 only gets you 14th place.

By comparison, 14th place in the Draper Days 5k last year was 18:03 in a circuit race in a much larger metro area.

I'm assuming your first mile split came from your watch and not the clock. I was a couple hundred feet back and the guy I went through it with said he saw 3:30!

From Jon on Sat, Jan 21, 2012 at 12:23:42 from 98.71.175.203

Thanks, Joe.

Rob- yes, it's a competitive race. Last year I got 15th, and 11 of the guys ahead of me were age 15-24. So young bucks. The short races around here are tough. Longer ones aren't as much- I would be a safe bet for top 3 at pretty much any of the halfs/marathons.

Justin- yeah, watch split. The clock was at 3 min when I passed it.

Must be all the graduates of that DI running power Furman?

Our weather here today is typical Greenville in the winter - 40s and rain all day!

Nice work Jon! And on 90 mpw too.. Jeez.

From Jake K on Sat, Jan 21, 2012 at 14:48:14 from 67.177.21.60

Great race Jon. You are right - base mileage is the most important thing - even a 5K is 95% aerobic. I think you could break 16 minutes w/ just a little speed work... I know the longer races are your focus, but its still good to know that - heck, I think if you really wanted to, you could break 2:30 for the marathon. Might be something to think about after you win a 100 miler :-)

From Jon on Sat, Jan 21, 2012 at 19:17:12 from 98.71.175.203

I know, Jake, I always thought 2:30 was possible. But I'm satisfied with my 2:34 and would rather focus on ultras. As evidenced in my last marathon race report http://jon.fastrunningblog.com/blog-09-19-2009.html

Nice to see you are not hurting for competition... Nice race.

From Scott Ensign on Sat, Jan 21, 2012 at 21:43:08 from 70.58.47.236

trail running doesn't slow you down on the road obviously. great job.

the republican party is in pretty sad shape if they back Gingrich. in a country with 300 million people this is the best we can do? looks like four more years of Obama. maybe not a bad thing. I liked Huntsman though.

From Jake K on Sat, Jan 21, 2012 at 22:17:31 from 67.177.21.60

Oh, I know your passion is on the trails and longer races Jon... and I think you're going to kick some butt this year!

Nice work.
