I ran for American Leaderships Academy my freshman year, so I was in 2A and facing much easier competition than I would in higher divisions. I really only did cross country because it would get me in shape for soccer, But when I realized I was actually good at it I made running my number 1 priority. I barely made it to state, but had a bad race and did not place very well. I decided to try a half marathon in November and did pretty good (considering I had only been running seriously for about 4 months.) I started off track running my fastest time in the mile, and didn't get another pr in the mile until state championships. I realized I was better at the 3200 and thats what I have been focusing on since then. At state track I got prs in all 3 distance events, which was a huge confidence booster!

Sophmore PRs:
My sophmore cross country season went much like last track season. I started off with my fastest time and didn't improve on it until one of the last races. I struggled a lot during this season, I got down on myself after every bad race I had, that was probably my biggest problem. At region I had an absolutely terrible race. We were planning on getting the team qualified for state, and I'm pretty sure it was completely my fault we didn't. Haha yeah it was bad, I ran about a minute slower than what I wanted and got 20th or something. I kept training through to December, did a few races, and had a really succesful race at Footlocker West. I got 14th in the Frosh/Soph race. Even though I got out kicked by two people in the last 100 I was really pleased, especially after that bad season. I started indoor track running 10:37 and 4:49. Soccer conflicted with track a lot and I think it was really detrimental to my times. I'm thinking about not doing soccer next year and just focusing on track. I had a few good races, and managed to destroy this kid in the last 300 meters at region and make it to state! Unfortunately I let the fact the I was seeded last at the state meet get to my head, and I got last by over a hundred meters. Not only the worst race of the season, but also the most humiliating. On to cross country!

Junior PRs:
Junior cross country season went well. It was rough but I had some high points. Finally broke 16 for 3 miles at region with 2nd place, broke an hour in the 10 mile and 34 minutes in the 10k. State xc went really bad. I missed my goal time by 40 seconds and my goal place by 25 people. Footlocker wasn't that great, I got the same time as last year and missed my goals on place and time. Trained really hard with high mileage through the winter.

| | 7 miles with the XC team. Really slow, probably 7:30 per mile.
|
| | Great workout today! We jogged to the sports park as a warmup. The workout was 10x400 meters on the grass. Me and Heston are trying to push for a sub 16 minute 5k this season, so we did these at 75-77. The last three were 69, 68, and 59. I almost beat Heston on the last one, but he had a better kick than me. Ran back to school as a cool down.
|
| | Moderate 3 mile tempo run with the XC team. Not nearly as hard as I thought it should have been, We were going way too slow. It was really hot though, and I think our mile splits were 6:30-6:10-5:45. I had soccer practice afterward, so that added like 1.5 miles or so.
|
| | 3 mile easy run on the river trail with Heston, Nate, and Guts. We talked about our goals for the season and for highschool. All of us are pretty nervous for our meet tommorow. Conner Mantz is racing there! Im really exctited to see how he does! Soccer practice later.

Aggie XC Invitational (3.107 Miles) 00:16:59, Place overall: 52 | | Not very happy about this race. I was aiming for sub 16:10, but that didn't work out at all. I warmed up with Nate 45 minutes before the race. I was feeling pretty good for the race began, I felt really confident. At the begining I panicked because of how many people there were, and I went out too hard. By 300 meters I was in 20th, and then I just kept letting people pass me. I wasn't mentally preparedfor this race. Nate passed me, which I was not happy about, I usually beat him by 30 seconds. I tried to stick with him, but he was following the pack in front of me and they were flying up a steep gravel hill. I caught up to that pack on the downhill, but finished 52nd. Nate finished 50th, and Heston was 18th. I was going to stick with Heston, but he was too fast today. I was discouraged and mad at myself, so afterward I did 10x100 meter sprints and a long cool down.
|
| | I was still angry about yesterday's race, so I decided to do something hard to condition my self. I just started running and ended up at West Mountain, so I ran home. I was really sore and hurting by the end. It was 13.75 miles.
Had a tough soccer game, probably 3 miles.
|
| | 4 miles with XC team. It took 30 minutes, and it rained really hard. We were going to go 7, but the rain was really bad. Our shirts weighed like 20 pounds from all of the rain!
Soccer practice in the rain, about a mile and a half.

Salem (3.05 Miles) 00:17:01, Place overall: 2, Place in age division: 2 | | Good race today. It rained really really hard again, so there were puddles and mud everywhere! I got out good in the first 200 meters, and I was in second/third at 400 meters. A kid named Dakota took off, and none of us could go with him so we just let him break away. Nate stayed behind me and a kid named Chestnut, but on a steep hill Chestnut started sprinting and so I had to go with him, but Nate fell back and wasn't able to make it up. Chestnut and I kept a good even pace for the whole time. We could have run way faster but our shoes were full of water. I let him make all of he pacing decisions, so he tryed to surge away a few times but I just stuck with him. It wasn't terribly hard. With 600 to go, he started to turn up the pace, so I knew I would need to make a move soon. We came around a corner and I cam around the inside hard and was already 5 meters ahead of him. Then I sprinted up and down a short hill and onto the track. I looked back and I was 15 meters ahead, so I just kept a good paced sprint, not quite all out until the last 50 meters. Dakota was 15 seconds ahead of me. Heston didn't run because he hurt his toe the day before, and Nate came in fourth, 15 seconds behind me. 2 mile warm up/cool down.
1.5 miles when I got home.
|
| | 7.5 with xc team. Pretty good, my legs were a little sore, but not too bad. Anywhere from 8:30 to 7:00 mins per mile.
|
| | Good workout. Jogged 1 mile to sports park. We did xc intervals, 4x1000 and a 400. Times were 2:55-3:10-3:09-3:05. Heston wasn't there. Coach wanted us to sprint up and down the hill at the end, so that really hurt. My 400 was 60 even. Jogged 1.5 miles home.

Region XC Kiwanis Park (3.107 Miles) 00:16:52, Place overall: 20 | | Pretty unhappy about this. I was positive I would get top ten, but I didn't even make it to state. 6 miles when I got home. Time to start training for Footlocker!

Junior Olympics Cross Country (3 Miles) 00:19:00, Place overall: 2, Place in age division: 2 | | Terrible race, probably one of my worst. I went out with Benjamin Pachev for the first two miles then he blew me away. Beat me by over a minute. |
| Race: |
Pre footlocker (3 Miles) 00:17:30 | | Ok race. I didn't try very hard but I almost be one of my rivals. I wis I would have known he was right in front of me! |

Earn Your Turkey 4 mile (4 Miles) 00:21:50, Place overall: 5, Place in age division: 2 | | Awesome race today! Really happy about this. When we started everyone was sprinting, which I didn't think normally happens in road races. We were going pretty fast. I heard someone say our first mile was 4:59. I was in a pretty big pack and as soon as we turned the corner right before the one mile mark, it spread out single file, and I was at the back. The group reformed and I tried to get back with them but I couldn't, and ran by myself for the rest of the race. I held a good pace the whole time. I did manage to catch another kid that fell off the pack. I really wanted to catch ban pachev, but he did really good, he got third with 20:59 I think. Went on a short run afterward. |
| | 5 easy miles so I can recover from my race and be ready for footlocker.
|
| | Went on a 3 mile jog with my mom as a warm up and then did a 5 mile tempo run. This is probably my last hard workout before footlocker. The temp went better than I thought. I'm pretty sure I held 5:45 pace. Cooled down 0.5 miles
|
| | Didn't run today. We drove up to California today
|
| | 3 miles around the footlocker course.

Footlocker Cross Country West Regional Boys Race (3.107 Miles) 00:17:14, Place overall: 16, Place in age division: 16 | | Warmed up a mile or so when we got to Mt Sac with Nate, Heston, Wyatt, and some of the girls. Then we played frisbee while some other races were going on, and we did another jog when our race got closer. I did one stride before the race.
My strategy was to take the first mile pretty easy. So when the gun went off I let everyone pass me and i got trapped in the middle. i almost think this is a good thing, becauase if I didn't get caught in the middle, I would not have taken that first mile easy, it was 5:40 or so. I caught back up with Nate at the one mile mark, and thats when we started the hills. They weren't too big of a problem for me, because I handled them really well. Nate stayed with me until both of us caught up with Heston. I tried to urge Heston on, but he had a bad race. I dropped them and tried to keep moving up. I was exactly 11 minutes at the two mile mark. I was pretty confident the entire race, and I didn't slow down a lot either. I took the downhills really strong, but I almost tripped a few times. On the last downhill, my coach Angie told me to surge really hard and dropped some guys, so I did, but they caught up after another minute. I didn't have a very good kick, one kid passed me at the very end, which kind of made me mad. But overall I was really happy with this race!
Cooled down about a mile afterward.

| | Tried out my new set of spikes today, and found out they suck! They are REALLY misshapen on the inside. But its ok because I got them for free. 0.5 mile warm up, then 1x400 and 1x100. I stopped because the spikes were really uncomfortable. 1.5 miles cool down. Later I did 100 push ups, 100 sit ups and 100 crunches, maybe 20 plank push ups on each arm, 200 calf raises (bad idea), and a lot of stretching. I felt really sore from all those hills at footlocker.
|
| | I decided to do an upbeat run today, not quite a tempo run but not really that slow. 1.5 mile warm up, then 6 miles at a faster pace. Splits were 6:49-6:34-6:33-6:24-7:00-6:34. I was pretty worn out by the end, and my hamstrings and calves were really sore and stiff from footlocker on Saturday. 1 mile cool down. Lots of stretching
|
| | 9 miles at the gym. I was going to run outside, but it got too dark and I had to go to the gym. It was really hot so I took it easy. |
| | 10 miles really slow. I was having trouble going over 8 minute pace. I guess I'm still recovering from footlocker. |
| | I was going to go 10 but it was so windy I could barely run! I finally just turned around and went back home. |
| | Easy 9 miles around the gold course. |
| | 8.5 miles in the morning, probably averaged around 7:10 pace. My ankles started hurting near the end, but overall it was a good run. I went to the gym to do some speed stuff on the treadmill. I warmed up for a mile and did 2x800. The first on was 11 mph, the second was 12.4. So the splits were like 2:40 and 2:23 or something. Felt pretty good, my legs were still tired from the morning run though. I am going to try to break 9:50 in the 3200, so I'm going to keep up some high mileage and add in some more running at that pace. |
| | 6 miles easy, probably 7:45 pace |
| | 7 miles slightly faster than 6:50 pace. Felt good but rushed because I had to get home. I've been so busy lately I haven't been able to run very much. I want to be doing 60 per week, so I need to find some time and start doing that so I can be ready for track season. |
| | 5 miles after school at like 8 minute pace, not bad.
Later I wanted to see if I can still run a 5 minute mile pretty easily, so I warmed up for 1.5 miles, then did a mile in 5:02. It wasnt bad I felt like I could have held that pace for longer. Cooled down 2.5 miles afterward, so 10 miles today.
|
| | Ran 10 miles in the morning, it felt great! I think it was low 7 minute pace, which is faster than I normally do my runs. My muscles and ankles didn't hurt as much as they have been either.
5 miles later in the day. The last two miles were 13:45, so I picked it up a little bit, but just because I was getting sick of running so much today! I was really bored.
|
| | 5.5 easy miles in the morning. I'm going to do a mile tempo run sort of thing later. I just want to be sure I can still run like a 4:45 to 4:50 mile. I want to start the track season running a 10 minute 2 mile and a 4:40 mile.
Warmed up for 2 miles, then did a mile time trial. I wanted to get 4:55, but got 5:09. There was quite a bit of wind and it was really old, so that probably affected my time. I'm going to do a mile time trial once a week from now on.
|
| | 10.5 moderately easy run today. It was really cold again, it felt like all my joints were frozen! It was pretty good. |
| | 5 mile easy run in the morning with my mom. My toe has started hurting again. I broke my big toe last high school soccer season, and I don't think it has healed yet. Sometimes the pain can get really bad, so I'm hoping it doesn't happen again. 1.5 mile warm up, then I did some speed play on the track. Sprints of anywhere from 50 to 150 meters. 1 mile cool down, total of 5 miles. |
| | 5 easy miles in the morning.
I was going to do five more with a three mile tempo in the middle, but I ran oit of time. I got a half mile warmup and ran three miles in 17:30 on the treadmill. I didn't get to cool down because I was really pressed for time. Thankfully I didn't get injured or anything.
|
| | 16 mile long run in the gym. Honestly this run was harder mentally than it was physically. Running for two hours in the same pace gets so boring, and it was really hot. I stopped every 4 miles to give myself a break, so every thirty minutes. It took two hours exactly.
|
| | Tried to do my mile time trial, but that wasn't working out. I have to run in the gym now and it gets really really hot. I also started cramping really bad, I actually had to stop a few times in my warm up because it hurt so bad. It's probably the way Ive been eating. Warmed up for a mile, then tried to do a mile in five minutes. I set it to twelve mph and just started, but I only lasted for a little over 800 meters. After I did 2 miles.
|
| | 10 miles at the gym. I stopped to take a break at five miles. The heat in there really kills me! Averaged 7:30 pace, so it took an hour and 15 minutes. For some reason I cramped up really bad in the last 800 meters, but not as bad as yesterday.
1 hour of basketball later, about a mile and a half
