I was more nervous for today's race than I have been for a long time. I really did not know what to expect. I have not run this race before and with the week I have had, who knew what would happen. I was also having serious "what to wear issues" . I was not sure how the weather would be out by the lake but it could not have been better.

I started out much faster that I normally do and it took me about 1/2 mile to get into a rythm. I soon realized my toes were completely numb. This is a first, even with all our winter running. My calves started there new aching at about 1 mile and I thought that I might be in trouble but they behaved. It seemed forever to get to the turn around. I finally made it to the turn around and at this point I was feeling pretty good. I had taken off my fleece before we started and was still overheating. Off came the gloves and ear warmer and I kept running. The last .25 is a little up hill and I struggled just a bit, but pushed through.

I was so excited to see my time when I came into the gate. A new PR. Overall, it was a pretty good race on a flat course. I got to meet Brent and Sylvia and chat with them for a few minutes and there were other FRB there as well.

Happy Running!

Congratulations! New PR for the New Year--the first of many this year, I'd wager. You are looking very strong in your training, Jody. Keep it up, you are inspiring me!

It is great to start out the year with a pr. Great job.

From Brent on Sat, Jan 26, 2008 at 15:57:34

Jody, 100 commando points today for the PR. Hey, being one of the WOWs, early morning tough runs has paid off. Agree with Lybi, as you can, keep adding some tempo runs and speed work, no doubt without Gwen, you will have more PRs.

It was nice to meet you and Paula. Don't be timid about coming up and talking to us at races, we live for the runner gabbing. (a note about your PR, colder weather and not the best running conditions) You can be faster than me, but, I will not be chicked without a fight. It will be worth too many commando points to count if you chick me this year.

Stay Cool, B of BS Rools out

From Michelle on Sat, Jan 26, 2008 at 17:32:07

Hey nice new PR!!! That has to make up for the not so great week! And a nice way to end the week and get a well deserved break to relax tomorrow!!! Glad that the weather cooperated for you and you were able to have a good time and meet some of the FBR crew!!!

From Kim on Sat, Jan 26, 2008 at 18:20:12

Way to PR! There are some great race reports all over this blog!

From Tom on Sat, Jan 26, 2008 at 18:20:47

Great race Jody! Always great to get the PR early in the year. This will be the first of many this year I'm sure!

Looking forward to you chick-ing Brent later in the year :)

From linda10k on Sat, Jan 26, 2008 at 19:39:09

I think shorter races are harder than longer ones because you have to run hard and fast. Congrats on the PR!

From Christi on Sat, Jan 26, 2008 at 20:08:49

YEAH JODY! Way to go! Did you score an award for 2nd in your division? a PR is the BEST way to start a new year- congrats!!

From laura on Sat, Jan 26, 2008 at 23:58:41

Great job, Jody!!!!! I love Brent's challenges. Doesn't that just make you want to chick him somehow!! LOL Of course, I would be on a gurney if I attempted, but you're doing great!!! GO, JODY!

From Christina on Sun, Jan 27, 2008 at 08:07:24

Thanks everyone for all the nice thoughts!! I really must say you are all a big part of any success I have. Thanks for all the support.

From Bethany on Sun, Jan 27, 2008 at 19:00:06

Im a little slow, but I found your race report! Sooooo amazing. What a fabulous time!! I can't tell you how impressed I am. Nice race Jody!

From Sasha Pachev on Mon, Jan 28, 2008 at 19:05:44

Congratulations on a PR. This is worth probably 23:30 on the same course in ideal conditions.

Some thoughts for improvement. Warm up before a race about 2 miles. This will help you race better and contribute to your aerobic fitness as well. Cool down for as long as you have time for or you need to to reach a decent mileage for the day.
