Booo...........  Got up excited to go out and see how I felt.  Ran with Paula for 1 mile.  Here's the deal - Left knee same ( but I think with time and better shoes it will feel better ); Right knee, (this is the one giving me major grief) mostly better except for when I turn, then the sharp pain comes back.  Right arch of my foot up to the inside of my ankle - on fire.  After a mile and still not feeling great I am thinking a few more days rest will let my body heal.  I am hoping that I will be okay for the Spectrum 10 K in two weeks.  If anyone has any suggestions, I welcome them.

Happy Running and Resting?

Oh no! I'd say ask Josse? She seems to know her stuff! I'm praying you just need a couple days of rest. Maybe a dip in a hottub would be good to warm and relax the muscles?

Hey pain in the knees where you are experiencing it is usually due to tight quads and adductors. I would take a rolling pin to the quad twice a day for the nest couple of days and see what that does for them. The arch thing is hard to really know unless I see you. But I would get a hard ball of can off soup and roll your arch over it, all this is going to hurt but should get better the more you do it. You can always give me a call if you would like more advise 8018303598. Hope eveything goes well. Also I would be doing some icing.

The dip in the hottub sounds good - get Jay on that ASAP!!!! Sorry you are having so many problems, it's bound to get better, just stick with it.

Oh dear, Jody! I have no advice for your knees, just want to encourage you! Like andee said, it is bound to get better. Hang in there! Definitely give yourself time to heal.

I"m sorry about your knee pains, Jody! With Striders coming up, you and Lybi are having rotten timing with knee problems. Josse's advice sounds really helpful, though! Good luck!!!!!!

Jody, some questions? Is you knee warm? Inflamed, if so, ice three times a day for 15 minutes and take an anti-inflam. Also, IT Band stretching, sometimes, tight IT Bands can cause knee problems. I would suggest getting on the internet and finding some good IT band stretches. I could have shown you last saturday. If you can't find any good stretches, blog me back and I will give you my cell number and explain. Good luck, you are doing the right thing by taking a few days off.

In the long term, you might want to look at some strengthening exercises for the muscles that support the knee and help the kneecap track correctly. There's some pretty good ones here:

http://www.bigkneepain.com/knee-exercises.html

I also recently read that one of the women elite (can't remember which or find the article) used the "chair" exercise to eliminate her knee pain. Sit like you're in a chair with your back flat against a wall, just without the chair there. She started at 1 minute and worked her way up to 8 minutes and no longer has knee pain.

I found that working on quad strength helped eliminate mine and has been a good preventive thusfar.

Good luck!
