AM - 14 miles. 5 mile AT Tempo in 25:58 (5:12/mi avg - 5:13, 5:18, 5:13, 5:10, 5:05), followed by 2 x 1 mile in 4:53, 4:53. Tempo loop. Recovery was ~2:30 (1/3rd mi) jog after the tempo, and then the usual 0.3 mi b/w the mile reps. 4 up w/ Andrea, 2.5 down.

This is a "simple" workout that could be done more often (for me I mean; it's not coaching advice). The problem is there are so many workouts one can do that it's hard to get them all in, as well as repeat them often enough for comparison sake. Anyway, those 4:53s will feel smooth on a sea level flat course, especially if the pace goes out fast. I'd like to be riding behind the pack for this one!

Simple is good. I've been moving in this direction for a while, and between now and CIM, my plan is to follow the pattern I've been on the last few weeks... space out the workouts (3 days b/w), keep it from getting too complicated, and resist the urge to squeeze extra stuff in just because I can.

Good thinking. Given your mileage, one day off isn't enough. Two days between looks good on paper, but I'm guessing the pay off isn't that much of a difference but the risk does make a profound difference. If you hit your workouts during high mileage what more can you ask for? This week. Another tempo run or a set of 200s on the track? I'm completely theoretical here. If I wasn't, I'd have some phone calls and a bit more coin! I think improvement is a incremental addition of what works + a little bit of improvisation. We will know in a week!

I'm planning to make sure when I take 3 days between harder sessions (really, 96 hours, that's a lot of time), I do some strides or something like that in between. But nothing taxing, just logging the miles, and hopefully that will help me get bigger benefits from the workouts. Or if nothing else, stay fresh and fired up mentally, and reduce the chances of getting hurt from stacking too much fast stuff close together.

My hamstrings love the extra easy recovery days.
