AM - Off, besides a short walk/jog to the bus stop. No sense on taking any chances. I have very little to gain from an easy 8 miles, but a lot to lose if I let this hamstring issue go too far.

PM - Went for a walk around SHP w/ Andrea. A few hours earlier, it was the XC mecca... while we were walking, it was deserted. Congrats to all the guys and girls who ran awesome races today at states - several of the top HS runners in the state are on this blog.

Shaved my legs when I got home. That took forever, because its been about 5 years since the last time I did it.

Keep the Kennards in your thoughts.

I hope the hammy heals up soon to get you back to your workouts. You are being smart in taking the rest.

Very smart call Jake. I wanted to respond to your response yesterday but I was babysitting a 2.5 yr old all day and never got back to a computer.

I think you have the right perspective about Vegas (or racing another half). If you don't have a chance of PR'ing because the hammy is holding you back there is really no sense in racing at all. I know you will make the right choice.

Smart. smart. smart. The key is keeping that in focus all day. I get to 4 o'clock on a day off and that itch starts creeping in - It reminds me of the quote by Salazar that Andrea posted the other day. That hammy will feel better in no time.

Good idea taking some rest.

What's up with guys shaving their legs? Ughhhh! Are you taking up cycling?

From Andrea on Wed, Oct 17, 2012 at 20:00:50 from 67.177.11.154

He had to shave them so I could do the e-stim without him crying when I pulled the electrodes off :)

From Lulu Walls on Wed, Oct 17, 2012 at 20:03:26 from 166.70.240.95

You have one?!? Can I be next? Oh, but then I would have to shave my legs... never mind.

From Andrea on Wed, Oct 17, 2012 at 20:04:41 from 67.177.11.154

Haha I just got one earlier this week. It's a very good quality one and you can come over any time to use it too. But yes, you must shave your legs!

From Jake K on Wed, Oct 17, 2012 at 20:17:08 from 67.177.11.154

Had to shave the legs for three reasons:

1. E-Stim electrodes

2. Massage pain reduction

3. Look better in Capri pants

Melody - your comment helped me squash that itch this afternoon and resist the urge to give it a "test" jog

Way to exercise some major self control!

From Fritz on Wed, Oct 17, 2012 at 20:50:18 from 67.177.4.64

are you making rational arguments for shaving your legs? I don't think it needs to be justified. Shaved legs and hamstring injuries seem to be trendy these days.

From Faceless Ghost on Thu, Oct 18, 2012 at 07:36:34 from 69.169.149.5

I shave my legs because after so many years as a cyclist, I'd feel strange if I stopped.

And because it makes me look sexy.

From Rob on Thu, Oct 18, 2012 at 08:06:47 from 206.71.84.68

What's an E-Stim Electrode? Did Lance Armstrong use them?

P.S. I started shaving my legs when I was 14 and have never let them grow back out cause it drives me crazy.

From Jake K on Thu, Oct 18, 2012 at 08:36:54 from 155.100.226.191

I love how this turned into major support for dudes shaving legs! Take THAT, Lulu! :-)

Rob - E-Stim is not a Lance product. And once Oakley drops him (I think they are the only sponsor he still has) I will be able to say I don't use anything that he sponsors.

I should not say "E-Stim" though because when you google that, there are some freaky other uses for these devices. So we'll just call it the IF-5000 from now on, and if that makes me sound like Robocop, so be it.

Not sure if it does anything or is just a placebo, but it doesn't hurt to try it.

From Rob on Thu, Oct 18, 2012 at 08:43:10 from 206.71.84.68

:). That was funny, I should have taken your word for it and not Googled it.

I think I'll use sting rays instead, that way I can put them in my aquarium when I'm not using them for therapy.

From Lulu Walls on Thu, Oct 18, 2012 at 08:50:40 from 155.100.212.135

Seriously?!? I didn't know that there were so many of you out there...At least keep them smooth fellas. Nothing is worse than a "man" with prickly legs!

Scare quotes? Ouch.
