AM - 12.5 miles up to work*

*Lunge walking with a 40 lb vest, alternating hyperventilation and holding my breath 1 min on/off. Barefoot. :-)

PM - 8.5 miles. Unfortunately missed the Alta run b/c my jeep was broken from the SoUT trip. Ran from work to the repair shop to pick it up. Did a loop around SHP along the way - the park was DESOLATE.  Apparently no one goes outside when its warm and sunny?

How long did that take you? Did you leave for work at 2 AM?

This will be a pretty big day for you.

From Jake K on Wed, Jul 11, 2012 at 08:55:04 from 155.100.226.54

Started at midnight.

I can't come tonight - my jeep is broken. Hopefully I'll be able to get it back after work tonight.

I can pick you up.

From Jake K on Wed, Jul 11, 2012 at 09:04:34 from 155.100.226.54

If my car is fixed I'll need to go pick it up before the shop closes. I'll let you know once I hear an update from them.

Sub 2 here we come. Where did you come up with the financial backing for this mornings workout?

From Rob Murphy on Wed, Jul 11, 2012 at 09:15:52 from 24.10.249.165

Just for grins, where would an interested person pick up one of them 40 lb. vests?

From Jake K on Wed, Jul 11, 2012 at 09:16:12 from 155.100.226.54

A Nigerian prince emailed me a few weeks ago about unloading some extra cash. I gave him all my personal info and a few days later he wired a few hundred thousand dollars into my account. Easy breezy.

looks like you can get them on Amazon

This is the guy that won the Big Horn 50, imagine if he was wearing a 40 lb vest, it would almost be like cheating.

If nothing else, Hobie has sure raised awareness of 40 lb vests!

Sounds like somebody will be in need of a good glute message. I am not volunteering! You will probably need someone named Helga to work out the knots.

Hahahahaha! I just got done reading that article :). You need to start with the mile run though or you'll never break 2 hours. :p

From Rob Murphy on Wed, Jul 11, 2012 at 12:41:46 from 24.10.249.165

Has anyone forked out the twenty bucks for Hobie's workout video?

From Jake K on Wed, Jul 11, 2012 at 12:48:19 from 155.100.226.54

I'm still waiting for Kevin's ab-ripper workout video that he is supposedly producing.

From ACorn on Wed, Jul 11, 2012 at 16:26:38 from 24.2.76.146

Rob,

I've got Hobie's workout DVD, I became fascinated with his spartan race dominance. He's obviously figured out how to get in great overall shape. Let me know if you want to borrow it.

I have a 20 lb. weight vest if anyone wants to add to their 40 lbs. to make it extra challenging. Then you might break 1:50 in the marathon.

From Tara on Wed, Jul 11, 2012 at 19:11:49 from 75.169.155.164

I like the vest exercise...did you come up with the breathing to add on your own?

Don't you love that you can you your legs as a vehicle when needed?:)

From Jake K on Wed, Jul 11, 2012 at 19:19:04 from 67.177.11.154

The breathing was Andrea's idea :-)

You are awesome, Jake! I love reading your daily entries. That guy that you ran with at the Half Champs ran the BG 10k in Lexington, KY recently and crushed everybody by over 2 minutes! (Kevin Castille, I think) You should make the trip east and give him some competition next year!! :) Its on July 4th, so you could sport your american flag shorts, also :)

From Jake K on Thu, Jul 12, 2012 at 08:28:02 from 155.100.226.54

Joe - Kevin is a STUD. What a strong runner. We ran stride for stride at the half champs the whole way... it was tough to see that "Over 40" bib on his back at the finish line when he pulled away from me :-)

I know - I really need to get those shorts out at a July 4th race next year!
