AM - 9 miles. Warmed up ~3 miles around SHP, then to the track for 4 x 1200m (400m jog) + 8 x 100m (on the straightaways, jogging the turns). Wanted to find the rhythm for Saturday's 10K on the 12s, and just run fast & relaxed on the 100s (and not aggravate my achilles). Splits were 3:43, 3:42, 3:42, 3:42, and all the 100s were ~15.5 seconds. Jogged around for 10 more minutes and called it a morning.

The 3 people on the track that were crawling around doing crazy stuff with dumbbells looked like they were working a lot harder than me. I'll take cruise intervals any day over whatever they were doing!

PM - 6.2 miles easy.

When I was in China there were lots of people who would walk backwards, raise their hands in the air and scream at the sky while walking around the track. I figure if the Chinese ever start dominating the marathon world I'll give it a try.

At least they weren't doing Tai Chi, for some reason all that slow movement makes me really uncomfortable.

From Jake K on Thu, May 24, 2012 at 09:10:58 from 155.100.226.54

They were crawling around with dumbbells. They hadn't even made it a full lap around by the time I finished over 20 laps!

Moving slow makes me uncomfortable too :-)

The chinese used to dominate women's middle distance running (and swimming) back in the 90s when their athletics program was basically a steroid factory. Apparently yelling at the sky isn't quite as effective as juicing to the gills.

haha track entertainment is the best! Nice workout Jake. And I totally agree, cruise intervals are my absolute favorite.

1 lap to 20?!? I thought they were doing a boot camp/cross fit thing, but that doesn't sound right. They're probably just crazy :)

the other day i passed ute crossfit and there were two guys on the sidewalk lifting sand bags over their shoulders. they would walk for a bit, drop them, then pick them up and start again. they were groaning and sweating profusely. looked fun.

Those guys will be well prepared for when the great salt lake ever floods over its banks and they need to build a sandbag wall around their crossfit gym to preserve it

I don't know what you all think is so weird about interval training with weights on the track. I did the same thing with 40lbs weights this morning and didn't make it 200 meters--I figure with the effort adjustment I did more than Jake's 20 laps. So there! jk (just kidding, not Jake Krong)

Nice workout, Jake! You do get the award for "who saw the weirdest thing this morning." I remember playing basketball one Thanksgiving evening at the school's gym and the only people there were Chinese. I've never been more confused in a basketball game in my life--or entertained. Every trip down the floor somebody would yell, "Dat's a fouw! Dat's a technico fouw!" The game would stop and somebody would shoot free throws.

Good luck in your 10K this weekend!

Very nice workout. Are you racing the 10K or doing a workout? Either way, I'm sure you'll come home with the win and $100.

We'll see - last year I got my butt kicked at this race! I'm aiming to hit 1/2 marathon goal pace, which at altitude is pretty much a "race" race effort for me. Hopefully the weather will cooperate, when I looked earlier it seemed like Saturday was going to be windy and yucky.

That consistency is truly amazing.

They were probably crazy crossfitters.
