AM - 10 miles. Started with the big group, similar to yesterday. Ran along the river.

PM - 7.5 miles. River run.

I'm so excited about Saucony's product line for 2014. I can't divulge too much, but the level of innovation is through the roof. I'll post some more info about it tomorrow, but in the coming days/weeks I'm going to start building a database of Utah runners who want to participate in wear/fit testing for new products in development. Stay tuned - there will be some good opportunities, and it's going to start with this blog.

Mile Erizione (captain of the 1980 USA "miracle on ice" hockey team) gave a surprise speech at our dinner banquet this evening. Really motivating stuff.

Can you clue us in if they are making running dickies?

From SpencerSimpson on Tue, May 21, 2013 at 17:04:31 from 65.44.123.2

Big fan of saucony. My first pair of running shoes was a pair of pre-jazz blue and grey shoes that my dad got for me. I thought I had died and gone to heaven. My first sub 5 min mile was in a pair of saucony jazz shoes. Didn't even know what a flat or spike was until jr year in high school lol. Anyways, I love the great brands out there like brooks, NB, altra, Mizuno, etc but saucony will always be my first love. Just thought I would share my cheesy love story behind saucony. Glad to hear the news and excited for them to come out with a flat that only weighs 2.0 onzs. :)

Awesome trip you are on. I would love to be at that! I'm glad you get to experience that. Saucony is awesome. I'm not from Utah obviously but I would love to wear test!

Are we going to wax nostalgic about our first pair of running shoes?

Nike Waffle Trainers 1979.

Will only wear test tie-dye shoes with built-in bottle openers!

From SpencerSimpson on Tue, May 21, 2013 at 18:27:40 from 63.82.19.2

much respect @Rob. That's actually pretty cool. I was only 4 in '79. I will still learning how to walk bc I was running barefooted @2yrs. Anyways, cheers to nostalgic! :)

I gotta say, the shirt I just got from them is an awesome material. Very lightweight.

Derek - if we expand the field testing program like we want to, Phoenix would be a great place to collect data during the winter months. Coordinating with a group like Bandidos and some of the specialty run stores in the area would be ideal.

Jon - guessing you have the new version of hydralite. People love it.

Spencer - the original Jazz are still so popular... They sell a ton in the originals line. I wear them as "dress" shoes (in all black). Oh and those other companies have some good stuff, but I don't think they stand a chance against what Saucony has coming :-)

Lulu - no tye dye schemes, but the Peregrine 4 is the trail shoe I know you are looking for. It's amazing. But you gotta wait until next year.

I like the idea about talking about first pairs of running shoes. I can't remember what mine were...

Anyways, if it seems like I'm really pushing the company line... Well, I haven't officially signed a contract yet, but I'm going to be working for Saucony now. I'm pretty excited, it's a great opportunity for me personally and since a lot of what I'm doing is going to revolve around field testing, I'll be able to get a lot of people in our running community involved in some very important and meaningful tests that have a big impact on the design / development process. Fun stuff ahead!

Typically you can only be a wear tester if you wear size 9 or 9.5... Still true??

From Jake K on Tue, May 21, 2013 at 20:44:45 from 66.228.74.2

It depends. Traditionally the standard has been W7 and M9, but we are going to try and expand that to W7-9 and M9-11/12. A lot will depend on the specific test being done.

Suweeeeet! Congrats on the gig and I am happy to hear that the Peregrine 4's will be specifically designed for short stumpy feets. But to be serious, I ordered me some Merrill Mix Masters!

From Jake K on Tue, May 21, 2013 at 21:07:22 from 66.228.74.2

Merrell is allowed. They are actually a sister company to Saucony now. Wolverine is the parent company. So you can also wear stride rite, hushuppies, chacos, etc.

From Trevor Baker on Tue, May 21, 2013 at 21:31:29 from 174.27.192.123

That'd be awesome... Size 11 over here! Haha... Enjoy Boston and saucony peeps. Love that company!

From Rob on Tue, May 21, 2013 at 21:34:06 from 204.15.86.95

If they need to test out a new treadmill shoe I'm your man.

From runningafterbabies on Tue, May 21, 2013 at 22:18:17 from 71.195.219.247

Super exciting! You have your dream job. Add me to your database. I love Saucony and would love to be a part of the R&D...keep pushing the W9!

From allie on Wed, May 22, 2013 at 07:24:31 from 161.38.221.168

make sure to give your pitch for glass shoes before you leave.

Non-Utahns?, Utahahans?, Utah-reses? Need not apply? This Floridiot discrimination will not stand! Seriously, I'm glad you are enjoying your meeting, and congratulations on your new gig!
