AM - 9 miles up to work. Snowy! Another day for the trail shoes... which are very, very clean because I pretty much only use them to run in the snow.

PM - 8 miles home. Not snowy.

BUMMER. I was really hoping to start logging some "PM - 4.5 miles down to SugarDaddie.com park" runs. Plus, just imagine how much the value of Fritz's new house would increase if this name change actually took place.

What the? I am pretty sure the community could us that money and well so could I. Off to sugardaddy.com I go :)

Speaking of trail shoes, do you have the kinvara trail?

From Jake K on Fri, Feb 22, 2013 at 09:30:52 from 155.100.226.191

I have the Peregrines (2011 model). They were actually built/designed on the same last as the Kinvara 2, so they are essentially just a trail version of those Kinvaras. But I think the toebox is a little wider than the newer Kinvara TR that came out last year. They are really great shoes.

I was just thinking this morning how bad I seriously need to invest in a pair of trail shoes! Although I do think trying to see how fast I could slide a mile in my kinvaras would be fun. Thanks for the tips Jake.

I tried on the kinvara trail shoes at rei last weekend and they felt really weird. I couldn't imagine running trails with them, but maybe tht is because I can't walk. I really wanted to like them!

From Rob on Fri, Feb 22, 2013 at 09:53:43 from 206.71.84.68

I got all 3 off my wives from that site.

From Jake K on Fri, Feb 22, 2013 at 10:06:04 from 155.100.226.191

I've heard that from several people about the Kinvara TR. Luckily I don't put nearly as many miles on my trail shoes, so I'll be able to wear the Peregrines for a long time!

Speaking of trail running. In your professional opinion would running the Antelope Island 50K 3 weeks out from Boston be a good or bad idea? It's technically suppose to be my longest run anyway, what's an extra 7 miles?

From DaleG on Fri, Feb 22, 2013 at 10:20:02 from 98.202.43.67

Nice job, Jake. How's the Achilles feeling?

From Jake K on Fri, Feb 22, 2013 at 10:24:30 from 155.100.226.191

If you want my professional opinion, I'm just going to be blunt - not a good idea.

There's a big difference in running a hard 20-23 miler w/ some MP work and slogging around on trails for 4+ hours.

To me, it just seems like the risks are too high. Its not really ideal marathon-specific training, and you're basically throwing away the next week's workouts b/c you'll need time to recover from it.

That being said, I guess there is also a difference between just running it at a casual effort level and actually racing it hard. But still, a 30+ mile run 3 weeks out is pretty long. That's Toshihiko Seko style training.

Dale - the achilles is still attaching my calf to my heel, so in the grand scheme of things, I guess its functioning OK! I have low standards!

From Rob on Fri, Feb 22, 2013 at 10:35:49 from 206.71.84.68

Good to know, the registration is closed anyway, so I guess I wont pursue it.

I guess the main difference between me and you though is I won't be standing next to Mutai at the start line in Boston.

From Jake K on Fri, Feb 22, 2013 at 10:38:01 from 155.100.226.191

Yeah but you still want to run well regardless of who you are lined up next to!

From Rob on Fri, Feb 22, 2013 at 10:44:56 from 206.71.84.68

I was just looking at the 2011 Buffalo 50K results, that was crazy, Mike Foote is a really accomplished ultra runner and you guys decimated him. Poor guy!

From Redd on Fri, Feb 22, 2013 at 10:49:33 from 67.182.221.190

That would be an amazing park/neighborhood. My hometown (Hamburg) once got an offer of 50K worth of veggieburger patties from PETA if we would change the name to Veggieburg.

From Lulu Walls on Fri, Feb 22, 2013 at 10:51:14 from 155.100.9.11

I would have moved to Veggieburg.

From SpencerSimpson on Fri, Feb 22, 2013 at 12:18:03 from 69.20.170.106

Sugar Daddy Fritz...that could gain traction quick I believe. Nice!

From Fritz on Fri, Feb 22, 2013 at 18:26:28 from 74.82.68.144

If you want to peak at Boston I wouldn't recommend the buffalo run either. Another 5 miles on trails will leave you beat up for several days. I think you would be better served doing a long tempo that day or finding a road half.

If changing the name to sugardaddie.com meant they would fix my sidewalk for free I would take it. Corporations buying city names is an interesting concept that may catch on eventually.

From Rob on Fri, Feb 22, 2013 at 18:39:34 from 204.15.86.95

Ok, good advice. Thanks guys. I guess the 50k course record is safe for another year.

From Jake K on Fri, Feb 22, 2013 at 18:57:10 from 67.177.11.154

Isn't it more like 7 extra miles, Fritz? "50K" is a very loose description of the actual length :-)

I used to say that I would go back and do that run again if someone broke my record... but now I don't think I would even do that. So you can get it next year, Rob, and won't have to worry about me showing up and trying to take it back.

From Rob on Fri, Feb 22, 2013 at 19:43:28 from 204.15.86.95

Damian Stoy is going to try and get it this year. I don't think he knows what he's up against
