A little too early to start tapering right now... check back in a week :-)
Its alright, not great, but slowly improving. Just need to continue to be careful and not jack it up any worse in the next two weeks. I'm pretty good about making sure I stay on the right side of the line.

Totally off topic question but what is the elevation gain on your way "up to work"? I'd have such a hard time getting motivated to run uphill every morning! No wonder your so fast.
From Jake K on Fri, Feb 15, 2013 at 09:51:28 from 155.100.226.191
Its a net gain of ~650 feet from home to work... so, somewhat significant!

I'd say so...so a follow up off topic question. What are your thoughts about running uphill for recovery/easy days? I'm sure for you since your body is so used to it it isn't a big deal but I've often wondered this. Sometimes when I run a hilly route after a hard workout I wonder if I'm getting the best recovery.

Its probably not "ideal" all the time, but I get extra sleep and don't have to drive, so those things probably balance it out. The other thing to remember is that I run REALLY SLOW on my morning recovery runs, 8-9 minute pace.
From Bonnie on Fri, Feb 15, 2013 at 11:58:44 from 74.202.188.254
I read somewhere that uphill is great recovery ... hardly anyone gets injured from running uphill (unlike downhill). And, I like that it ensures an easy pace.
Nice job Jake, I love that you run such an easy pace on your easy days. It would be the only time that we could run together (of course I would have to be running at 75%) ;-).

oh, and Jake, please look out for my friend, Merry Dearmon, at the race! She will be coming in at about 3:10-3:15 (she is 55 years old!!). I told her about you and Andrea when we ran together last weekend. She will be looking to congratulate you ;-)

I'll try to beat her! :-)
You know what colors to tell her to look out for... we're usually pretty easy to spot.

Thanks for the feedback Jake & Bonnie. This is something I have thought about for awhile but never really looked into. Great point about injury & uphill too Bonnie thanks.

Any plans for long run or workout tomorrow?
From Jake K on Fri, Feb 15, 2013 at 13:14:21 from 155.100.226.191
Looks like the Utah County crew is doing a 20 miler tomorrow. I'm planning to double dip this weekend and do a shorter LT session (5-6 X Mile) tomorrow and then a MP workout (~8-10 @ MP) on Sunday. Haven't ironed out the details yet... probably will start ~830-900 but I need to figure out exactly when I need to take Andrea to the airport.
From Fritz on Fri, Feb 15, 2013 at 14:55:32 from 65.116.116.6
I would be up for running all or part of a long run starting at 8 or 8:30.
From Jake K on Fri, Feb 15, 2013 at 15:39:38 from 155.100.226.191
I think Collin wants to do a long run at a non-5am time... I'll probably be starting in that 800-830 timeframe, but I'll do ~4-5 mi easy and then get into my workout.

Soooo how are we suppose to know if you are tapering? :)

Jake you might be the only person who would blog less miles than actually run. I could see you switching to some modified Badger system next week. : )

I'm not sure if you're aware of this site but it's a good one: Runner's Life - lots of profiles with blogs of runners around your standard. There's some great training stuff in there and other good articles.
