AM - 8 miles easy (64 minutes). First mile was 9:42, so it was actually quite a negative split run!

PM - 10 miles. Tempo reps on the track - 2 x 5K in 16:25 (5:18, 5:15, 5:14, :38), 16:19 (5:16, 5:14, 5:11, :38). Jogged a lap in-between. Had a harder workout on the schedule for today, but since I had a good workout on Tuesday, then a big mileage day yesterday, I thought it would be wiser to not push the envelope too much. 5K reps @ MP were a good substitute - quality miles, but not overly taxing... doing these on the track is excellent practice for the monotony of the marathon. You just zone out.

One of my favorite blogs, Sweat Science, has moved to Runner's World. This is from Alex's first post at the new location, on a topic very relevant to those of us who live in the SLC valley: If you have the choice between running alongside a river or running alongside a four-lane highway, choose the former every time. But if you're choosing between running on a polluted day or not exercising at all, this study should tilt you in favor of lacing up the shoes.

Just sent in my permit request for the JMT this summer! Hopefully they are easy to get :)

They are not easy to get! I need more details on this - I am a JMT junkie. Are you planning to do the whole thing? What time of year?

From Lulu Walls on Thu, Feb 09, 2012 at 11:05:12 from 155.100.212.98

I knew you were a junkie and that is why I told you! Whole thing. Shooting for a first week of August start.

Its going to be a great year for the JMT, in terms of mosquitoes! They were heavy when we did it - but w/ the low snowpack and the fact that you are going in August, they should be done by then.

I went through the whole "fax my permit request in 25 times" during February - and then we ended up going 2 weeks earlier than expected... we went straight to the valley and got a permit to leave the next morning at the ranger station. That ended up being pretty easy.

We're going to Mammoth Lakes the last week in July, so if you need a place crash on your journey to Yosemite, you got one!

Yeah I plan on faxing one in every day for the next month, but I honestly think the walk-in permit is the way better way to go. That's how I did the Grand Canyon and a bunch of Zion hikes without any problem.

Sweet you ran my pace today. :) Hopefully your feeling better after your "rest" day.

Hope you're feeling better.

Gonna hit it tonight w/ a workout, that will tell me if I'm better :-)
