AM - 11.5 miles up to work, easy. Dressed pretty warm so I could just jog without freezing.

PM - 8.5 miles home.

I've decided to run a spring marathon. At first I was going to hold off until the fall and just focus on the half-marathon championships, but they aren't until mid-June, and I'm already at a very good level of baseline fitness, so there is no reason why I can't do both. I emailed the BAA yesterday, and 30 minutes later I had an entry to Boston! So now a few more weeks of messing around, and then it will be time to start training seriously. Needless to say, I'm very excited. This is going to be a great opportunity for hopefully what will be a breakthrough race, and with so many bloggers making the journey out to Boston, it is going to be a lot of fun.

So I can feel like a clydesdale? :-)

From Rob on Thu, Jan 12, 2012 at 11:50:30 from 206.71.84.68

Oh good, Ryan Hall needed someone to take his place among the pack of Kenyans.

Good Luck, that sounds fun. I'm planning on a 2013 Boston.

Excellent, I just found myself a pace group.

Woo hoo!!! I am so very excited for you Jake!

You and Andrea better be up for a Boston Red Sox game with me while we're in town. :)

Great to see you will be running Boston, good to have another FRB represented.

Get hotels and plane tickets ASAP (or did you get in with the elites for the hotel?)!!

Congrats! I am sure you will kill it. Looking forward to reading about what kind of training you do leading up to it.

Jeff - we're going to work on travel logistics right away and try to get them figured out ASAP. I have some friends who live in Boston, so we're debating staying w/ them.

Dan - I'm just going to look at the logs of Paul Peterson, Geoffrey Mutai, and Bill Rogers. Those guys seems to know how to tackle Boston :-)

Have you read Ryan Hall's "Running with Joy" It's pretty much his running log building up to Boston.

Plus a little bonus spirituality :)

I'll have to check that out. Thanks Rob.

That's great, Jake. The group just got a little bigger and a lot better.

Ooooooh exciting! Psyched to follow another one of your journeys :)

From Rob on Thu, Jan 12, 2012 at 17:19:09 from 206.71.84.68

Carina brought me an autographed copy from Boston last year if you want to borrow it.

From Jake K on Thu, Jan 12, 2012 at 17:23:56 from 155.100.226.54

Rob, maybe we can do a book exchange. I would like to read it. I really like Ryan Hall - some people think he's a little nuts, but I love how he has total belief in himself and in how he lives his entire life. Anything on your "to-read" list for your upcoming travels? I have 90% of the books ever written about the sport

From Jon on Thu, Jan 12, 2012 at 23:37:25 from 98.71.175.203

Boston, huh? Maybe you can pull a Paul and be 3rd American.

From Nate on Fri, Jan 13, 2012 at 11:39:48 from 67.20.222.80

Ha, I love that you were like I should run Boston and then 30 min later you were in 4 months after registration. Good luck!

From Jake K on Fri, Jan 13, 2012 at 11:46:07 from 155.100.226.54

Jon - Paul has definitely set the bar pretty high in terms of what constitutes an amazing performance at Boston!

Nate - I think my half-marathon times definitely help out quite a bit in terms of getting into races! :-) I feel really fortunate that I didn't have to make the decision 8 months in advance. In a way it feels unfair, but hopefully I can run a race that proves to the BAA that I deserve to be there.
