AM - 5 miles easy.

I put up a bunch of pictures from last weekend on Wasatch & Beyond. Southern California is really nice and I'm already trying to figure out when another trip can be arranged...

PM - 3 miles w/ Andrea + some short strides.

10K is at 8:55pm tomorrow night. We're flying to Portland in the afternoon. The plan is simple - run a 5K PR for the first half, then start racing :-) Decided to scratch from the 5K on Saturday night and just spend the rest of the weekend visiting the coast and doing vacation things. I think I could pull of a pretty good double, but its actually a lot more important to me to spend a fun weekend with Andrea and not just sit around a hotel waiting for the next race. In this case, since the 10K is Friday, I get to have my cake and eat it too.

You're ready for a big one! We did a family trip to Canon Beach on the Oregon coast a few years ago. It's where those giant beach rocks from Goonies are. Have fun!

Great pictures. You should include a few of the parking lot freeways so I am not tempted to move back.

The drive out to SB was brutal, in terms of the traffic. I would not want to drive those freeways...

Derek - we are headed to Cannon Beach! Did you visit any of the state parks while you were there? I was looking at Ecola, Oswald West, and Hug Point...you have any particular suggestions?

You are freaking awesome! I love the plan Jake. I really, really think you will run two 5k pr's tomorrow night.

Have fun in Portland I have heard it is an awesome city.

Best wishes to you in your 10K tomorrow night. Looking forward to a good report :-)

Andrea: We didn't do any hiking but I'm sure it would be great. Impressive lush forests on one side of the road and ocean on the other. The beach was nice and hard packed to get some soft running in without getting all sandy. It's a beautiful and visually stunning area with those rocks on the beach and the forests so close. Have a great trip!

Sounds like an awesome plan! Have fun and good luck with the bedtime 10K :)

I know, I'm just hoping to stay awake past the 20th lap :-) I've been staying up all the way until 930 lately watching the NBA playoffs, so I should be able to handle the late start. Quicker I finish, the quicker we get to sleep. That's the motivation!

Derek - running on the beaches sounds great. I am looking forward to that. We're going to stay up in Seaside and hit Canon Beach on Sunday.

We won't forget the ice cream - trust me, I've already located several Dairy Queens that we'll be passing by... :-)
