AM - 18 miles. Ran to the canal and did most of the run on dirt, which was nice on my legs. First 14 miles easy, and then a short, progressive tempo for the last 4 miles: 5:21, 5:18, 5:13, 5:03. I'm glad I'm not doing any real long runs during this stretch because I've gotten spolied doing them with the group!

PM - 5 miles. Did some sporting clay shooting up at Ben Avery this afternoon w/ the family. A lot of fun - I've never done that before and did pretty well. I scaled down to the 20 gauge and my shoulder is thanking me for that :-)

18 miles IS a long run!

I meant like REALLY long runs... like 20 ;-)

This is my favorite workout. Nice work Jake! And I completely agree with Andrea, 18 miles seems daunting to me right now. :)

18 is a nice LR to cap off a week w/ several workouts. Better than slogging out 22 and being wiped. Took me a while to get going this morning, still probably feeling yesterday a little. But running faster felt good.

Way to follow up that awesome LT workout with another good one.

They did the area a favor by collecting all those tumbleweeds - those things can be dangerous!

Great run again! Yeah, it's amazing how much easier the long runs are with a group.

I'm going to take a long nap, just proving 'long' has nothing to do with distance traveled. When you do the last 4 miles in 21 minutes the run in no longer long.

Looks like you are going to break last year's mileage total!

From ACorn on Sun, Dec 23, 2012 at 16:12:15 from 24.2.76.146

Great run! Happy Holidays to you and your fam Jake!

Jason - I know, I didn't want to, but I think its inevitable at this point. My resolution for 2013 is to come in WELL UNDER this mileage total I've hit the past two years... more afternoons in the pool :-)

From Jason D on Sun, Dec 23, 2012 at 19:08:41 from 198.228.200.156

You did make a conscious cutback to recover after the last marathon. Let the mileage fall where it may!

From Rob Murphy on Sun, Dec 23, 2012 at 19:12:20 from 24.10.249.165

Sounds like fun.

I've been conscious of getting off the pavement since I listened to the Salazar interview. I think we've all intuitively understood that (Jeremy Ranch), but it helps to be reminded.

From Jake K on Sun, Dec 23, 2012 at 19:16:20 from 98.165.228.80

True... And I will say that shutting it down for a bit was the smartest thing I did this year. I would not be rolling along like I am right now if I kept pressing on. So there's my advice... Andrea is always right, and a little downtime and letting yourself get a bit out of shape can set you up to crush the next cycle.

From Jake K on Sun, Dec 23, 2012 at 19:17:23 from 98.165.228.80

Me too Rob. I'm trying to as much as possible.

From CollinAnderson on Mon, Dec 24, 2012 at 16:08:16 from 70.197.196.100

Your mileage is nuts. I felt pretty good about 18 yesterday and 14 today to start what will be one of my biggest weeks for Phoenix, but you're still owning me.
