AM - 16 miles. Slow warmup for 3 miles. 10 Mile AT Progressive Tempo in 53:06 (5:19/mi avg). Splits - 5:33, 5:26, 5:25, 5:21, 5:20, 5:19, 5:17, 5:13, 5:10, 5:02. Cooled down another 3 miles.

Perfect workout for this morning... needed something I could ease into and reduce the "why am I doing a workout on Christmas morning?" thoughts :-) It was actually a really nice morning, completely empty roads, and a beautiful sunrise was going on during the second half of the tempo. I felt really lucky in that moment, clipping along easily at 5:20 pace and watching all the colors in the sky. I have a lot to be thankful for.

PM - 8 miles. Ocotillo loop.

Did a nice hike at San Tan Mountain Park during the afternoon w/ my parents. It was surprisingly overcast today, but fun to get out in the hills. My parents hike FAST!!! I'm used to moving slowly when not training.

Merry Christmas everyone!!!

Awsome workout Jake. It was a great morning out there on the road.

Merry Christmas!

Did you see the Mo Farah quote on lets run?

From Jake K on Tue, Dec 25, 2012 at 11:02:12 from 98.165.228.80

Rob its Christmas, I'm not reading Letsrun today! :-)

Mo probably did a recovery run faster than my tempo!

From Rob Murphy on Tue, Dec 25, 2012 at 11:28:34 from 24.10.249.165

Seriously, it's a great quote,

From SlowJoe on Tue, Dec 25, 2012 at 13:27:00 from 69.131.141.92

I did a crazy workout last Christmas too, why not?! Great run.

Nice Christmas day run. You're killing it.

From Jake K on Tue, Dec 25, 2012 at 17:46:15 from 98.165.228.80

Totally agree Joe (and others)... Christmas is always a great day for putting in some solid running. You still get to spend a ton of quality time w/ the family if you get the main session done early. And after reading the Rob/Mo quote, there was no excuse to not get out in the afternoon too. Its funny how in the "regular" world this might seem weird, but on this blog, if you don't put in 40 miles on X-Mas Eve and X-Mas, you're a lazy bones! ;-)

Awesome tempo Jake!

The kid's a beast.

Great workout, Jake. Now I feel guilty. I only did an 8 miler before the kids got up. Couldn't manage the second run as I was stuffed with food - the evil sort of food that makes you feel bad for a day or two. Well done for putting it in on the big day.

Wow what an action packed Christmas Jake! I am suddenly feeling guilty about laying on the couch in my PJ's eating fudge all day long.

Awesome workout and seriously could you quit rubbing in how nice the weather there is! It is a mess in UT.

From Jake K on Wed, Dec 26, 2012 at 10:37:48 from 98.165.228.80

I got out of town at the perfect time (if I wasn't going to be skiing... and the skiing does appear to be very, very good right now). We have the best weather in the country (for running) down here right now :-)

From Tara on Wed, Dec 26, 2012 at 12:09:08 from 75.169.141.152

Very nice Jake! I knew you'd be at it with all those shoes you brought with you. Adda boy. Hey I'd like your feedback (Andrea's too) on my post today. I'm interested in your perspective. I get confused. I hope you had a Merry Christmas!

From Jake K on Wed, Dec 26, 2012 at 12:23:30 from 98.165.228.80

Tara I actually responded already before I saw this :-)

From Christie on Wed, Dec 26, 2012 at 16:32:31 from 74.213.202.246

You are a machine. What is your goal MP for your upcoming race?

From Jake K on Wed, Dec 26, 2012 at 17:54:42 from 98.165.228.80

Hopefully under 5:20, Christie :-)
