AM - 15 miles. 3 warmup, 10 mile AT progression in 53:45 (5:23/mi avg), 2 cooldown. Splits - 5:35, 5:33, 5:28, 5:24, 5:24, 5:20, 5:18, 5:21, 5:16, 5:06. Always feels good to knock out a solid workout to start off the week.

In addition to the new OTQ standards, something of interest (to me) that came out of the USATF meeting is that Twin Cities will be the site of the USA Marathon Championships for 2013 and 2014. Its not my ideal timeframe/location, but definitely something I'll think about... in about 7 months :-)

PM - 30 minutes pool running.

Caught a beautiful sunrise as I was leaving for work...

Both times I have run this race I have had less than ideal conditions on a tougher course. They put on a first class event though.

I wish you the best of luck in your traing to achieve the new standard.

Yeah I know you've run it a couple times - seems like the toughest part of the course comes at the worst possible time (last 10K).

What I don't like is that the timing is right at the same point when most of the fast fall 1/2 marathons are, and I think I'd probably end up chasing the sub 1:05 standard first. But what I do like is that its a national championship and I'm sure the competition will be incredible and TCM will make it a first-class event. Since it'll be there for two years, I'm sure I'll end up going once.

wow, great workout! Where did you do the run?

Looks like CIM was miserable as expected so next year has to be perfect weather. A friend of mine ran it and had to drop out at mile 20 because her body temperature was 91.

From Jake K on Mon, Dec 03, 2012 at 09:21:53 from 155.100.226.191

I did it on my 1.5 mile loop - in the neighborhood b/w 3900S-4500S, 1300E-Highland.

I am not sad that I missed CIM. That looked miserable! And the Vegas 1/2 was bad too - 30-40mph winds... winning time barely under 1:08. I guess I really did make the right call by not doing anymore big races this fall. I feel a lot better about my decision after how this past weekend played out.

Wow awesome workout Jake! You completely nailed it with the huge negative split.

You definitely made the right decision as both of those races yesterday looked completely miserable.

Very impressive Jake! You are an animal. That was sure a great run on Saturday. I really enjoyed it. Looking forward to many more such runs with you.
