AM - 11.5 miles up to work. Back to the usual routine.

PM - 11.5 miles home. Did the same DH pickups as last Thursday - splits this time around were 2 miles in 9:56 and 1 mile in 4:50. Quicker than a week ago, but I still feel pretty slow. Ran a few miles with Andrea, too. Altogether a pretty good (and HOT) run.

Vacation is over... :-)

(Sorry Andrea I couldn't resist!)

I'm thinking that I probably could use another half-marathon as a tempo run / hard workout this weekend, but it seems like the only one is up in Morgan, and I don't know if I feel like being in the car for that long after yesterday's drive. I'll have to make a decision tomorrow.

I bet someone could get you into Timp 1/2. Welcome home!

Boy, Andrea must have been in a lot of trouble for you to make her sleep on the couch.

That's more of a course for parachuting / hang-gliding.

Seriously the most Beautiful canyon in Utah to run down though. I really enjoyed that race last year, I wish I could do it this year but I'm a bit sore for that right now. I actually don't think it's that insane downhill, there is about an 1/8 mile at the top when you drop down from the Dam, and then after the canyon it starts rolling.

From Andrea on Thu, Jul 26, 2012 at 08:48:05 from 72.37.244.100

I actually have very good reasons for the awkward positioning of my nap!

From Jake K on Thu, Jul 26, 2012 at 08:54:42 from 155.100.226.54

It averages 140 feet per mile of downhill LOL. That's insane downhill in my book! The legal limit for a fair course is about that amount over 13.1 miles.

I'm not saying it isn't scenic... I just don't want to do a major downhill run right now. When I'm feeling fast enough to go for a really quick time, one of these days I'll do one of these courses.

Like what? That pillow is actually full of sand and fell on your head?

From Jake K on Thu, Jul 26, 2012 at 08:57:04 from 155.100.226.54

That picture was actually taken about 2/3 of the way through the trip.

The caption is "RELAXING VACATION!"

You could run the Sogonapmit full, then the average drop is 0.

From Jake K on Thu, Jul 26, 2012 at 09:01:05 from 155.100.226.54

That does sound more fair! :-)

From Rachelle on Thu, Jul 26, 2012 at 09:23:53 from 159.212.71.200

haha that picture is epic. Just create your own half marathon and save the entry fee.

From scottkeate on Thu, Jul 26, 2012 at 09:28:20 from 216.49.181.254

You're more than welcome to come and make this Timp half an easy tempo run and assist me in seeing how close I can come to a PR :-) I'm still okay with "unfair" courses--they are good for my old brain and delicate self esteem :-)

From Jake K on Thu, Jul 26, 2012 at 09:30:40 from 155.100.226.54

I didn't mean to start a whole aided vs fair course thing... I guess I was just saying if I was trying to use a race to get in a good workout, I didn't want it to be a major downhill. That's why I was thinking of Morgan. Either way, Jeremy Ranch is the closest drive, so that's probably where I'll end up :-)

From scottkeate on Thu, Jul 26, 2012 at 09:55:19 from 216.49.181.254

I was just giving you a hard time. No feathers ruffled here. My motives were selfish in that it is dang fun to run with you. We get to hook up on another day. I believe Fritz is seriously considering some track work. It'd be cool for me to chase you two around a track.

From Jake K on Thu, Jul 26, 2012 at 09:57:31 from 155.100.226.54

Right now I'd be the one chasing. I did about 30 seconds at marathon pace yesterday and pretty much hit the wall :-) That's why I gotta start getting the legs moving quicker again, I'm getting slow w/ all this mountain running! :-)

8.73 laps around liberty park. i can set up an aid station and probably arrange for some musical entertainment. i also know how to rig the sprinklers. we can work out the details via fax.

From Jake K on Thu, Jul 26, 2012 at 10:10:24 from 155.100.226.54

Just hit up my pager or beeper (I carry both with me on my fuel belt at all times)

From DaleG on Thu, Jul 26, 2012 at 22:42:54 from 152.216.11.5

I wish I was as slow as you. :)

From Bam on Fri, Jul 27, 2012 at 09:05:33 from 213.191.241.77

Jake, those splits are substantially faster than the last time you did them. With the 'mountain' of miles you have under your 'belt', you'll be flying soon enough. Take into account your 30 min track 10k, your 1.06 half (which I missed because of my holiday and have just read about), the character building Boston Burner, a 1:05 half for Long Beach and put it all in the mixer and you'll get, er, um, something. Ah yes, something very fast. Good stuff's not too far down the road for you. Stay patient, kidda:)

From Jake K on Fri, Jul 27, 2012 at 09:08:59 from 155.100.226.54

Thanks Bam. I'm being patient - I know all this stuff accumulates... I don't need to run the marathon of my life in 2012... I need to harness it in and pop some good ones over the next couple years, especially once the Olympic Trials window opens back up again. For now - just keep having fun, and let 'em rip every once in a while :-)
