Well I got outside today for the long run. It was around 30 degrees but pretty windy. I felt good but just took it easy the whole way. Around half of the run was into the wind and it had a bigger impact on me than I thought. It was blowing pretty hard and steady. Also, I ran out of the Body Glide a few days ago and this was not a good thing. I will have to replace that soon if you know what I mean. Overall, this was a good week. I feel like I have established a pretty good base to start building on. I plan on trying to increase my mileage over the next few weeks. I know it will be tough because of time commitments and possible business travel. I would like to get up around 70 mpw by summer but I am not sure if I can manage the time to do it. I have to keep the balance between family, work and running so we will see what happens. This is the most that I have ever run consistently so I am happy with that but I hope I can still take it up another level.

Great run today and your base running is doing great as you mention. Good luck with the mileage increase, I know the time commitment pressures you are feeling. I bumped up to 70+ miles last year and it was a struggle at times. Mostly I do two-a-days to get the mileage in (early morning runs and lunch runs). You can do it, but it does take some work.

Thanks for the encouragement! Did you see a significant improvement when you increased the mileage? I am impressed by how quickly your times have come down.

Yes I did. As I started to increase my base mileage and integrating a better mix of speed/tempo work along with more long runs (12+ miles) my pace really improved.

My mileage per year since I started running marathons/competitively:

2005: 1555 miles

2006: 2322 miles

2007: 2963 miles

This past year I trained much more specifically for races as well (lots of hill training, both up and down, since most of my races were all hilly!).
