Beautiful morning for running (58). I had a little soreness from yesterday's long run but actually felt pretty good compared to how I have felt in the past after a long run. I did have some soreness/tightness in the knee again so not sure if I can get through a long run without having some problems. I will just continue the ice/streching to see if I can keep it from getting worse.

I just took it easy today but felt good later in the run so finished with a couple of faster miles.

Great follow-up to a long run...very impressive to get in the 22. I'm not an expert to this, but it looks as though you've conquered any chances of a "crash and burn" for your next finish.

I hope you are right! You may be in the same boat as me trying to figure out what pace to go out in. Since my first marathon I was not nearly in as good shape so don't have much experience in picking a pace. I don't want to be too conservative but I don't want to push too hard and crash. What's your plan?

My plan is to run a 20k next week (road race) and a 1/2 marathon at the end of the month. If I can keep under a 7:00 min pace for the half, I'll go for the BQ pace with maybe a few minutes cushion (7:20 or so). The MacMillan pace calendar has me running a 3:06 with my 5k time, but I don't trust that short a distance. The 20-milers have been much easier for me this go round, yet I'll need to be mentally tough for that last 10k (crashed and burned around 22 in my first marathon).

Our plans are very simular. My long runs have been going a lot better as well. I think that is a result of the higher weekly base mileage that we have been doing. I think you are smart for running the half and getting a good gauge of where you are at. I have been looking for a half to run but can't find one close that works with the schedule. I think I will just go out and do around 12 miles at half pace and see if I can sustain it. Always better to be run in a race since you have the crowds, other runners, fluids, etc. I don't think you have to worry about crashing in this marathon you have put in the right training for a good result.

I read somewhere, not sure if it's gospel truth, that you can take your daily running average and multiply by three to figure out where you might hit "the wall". For example, if you average 9 miles of training per day, you can expect to possibly hit "the wall" around mile 27. Whether or not it's true, seem to fit with Sasha's philosophy of working towards 10 miles per day. Thus, if you're averaging 60 miles per/week with solid long runs you should be in good shape.
